A Film Camera… But Digital

This and the Fujifilm X-T100 & XV100! Such niche of cameras should exist! The only reason we bulked up cameras was because of the tech we rammed inside it. Though now we have those, but BETTER, FASTER, LIGHTER, AND COMPACT. Why not take advantage and revive classic styles? You know the masses love em! I hate canon for not even introducing atleast 1 camera that calls back their retro aspects; the eos-m system was perfect for that…

It’s fun to use. But there is one massive reason for why I did not buy this and bought the z6iii instead….the viewfinder. The viewfinder experience with this camera is really bad imo, the resolution and refresh rate are not up to par and it ends up not feeling like the organic experience you want with a digital camera emulating a film camera….I want that viewfinder to feel optical. With the Z6iii, the viewfinder is so good it feels almost feels like you’re looking at real life. On top of this, the exposure settings are just as easy and physically tactile to adjust on the z6iii as on the zf, if not easier….while being able to keep your vision in the viewfinder and see what the settings are as you change them with the ergonomic dials, it’s muscle memory. If the zf had this same viewfinder, then yes I probably would have bought it. But, even then, the dials are actually more difficult to change then the simplicity of the z6iii’s dials. I’m someone who is a manual shooter, and even so, I prefer the efficiency of shooting manual on the z6iii…I can adjust, correctly expose, or create the image really fast. And for professional work, with the z6iii I get a faster camera focus/processing/auto exposure, and better storage with cfxpressB and SD rather than SD and MicroSD. The ZF does however have a slight edge in dynamic range up to 800iso, past this point they are identical.

While I know Nikon was never famous for their rangefinders…what we really need is a full frame digital rangefinder from Nikon which emulates an analog experience…or just the ZF with a better viewfinder and Cfxpress+SD.

First camera I ever bought preordered and new. Have had 8 or so others and all used. But I fell on love with this thing. Not to mention my fuji x100v I bought used for 1100 was bloated to 1600 resale so I sold it to fund this

I so much miss the controls of original SLR cameras. The digital controls on modern DSLRs make me feel like I'm operating a Xerox photocopier machine. I very much welcome these Fujifilm and Nikon retro models.

I own a ZFc which is a cheaper and smaller version. It's amazing especially with the 40/F2 lens!

I know someone who loves this camera! I feel that Nikon is banking on nostalgia. I could be wrong. I shoot Nikon and have since 2008. I am on my 3rd DSLR, started with the D40 and have been shooting with the D750 since 2017. I don’t need a new camera, the one I have still surprises me with what it can do.

Just got the Z6iii. Might need to get rid of my two og Z6’s and add the ZF. Love the way that thing looks. The nostalgia. Also, the manual focus assist is 👌

Just used it with the Grip and 180-600 in a sport competition in Athens, It proved to be a very capable camera.
