Boss NS-2: Set up and Utilizing FX Loop

Trying to figure out how to max out my Boss NS-2 Noise Supressor's capabilities, while also maxing out my other pedals capabilities was a real pain!

Here, I will break down the order in which, I have learned, the pedals should be placed. I will break down how to set up the Boss NS-2, as well as where it goes in your pedal chain, and I will explain how to include other pedals before and after the Noise Supressor so that you max out their capabilities, and don't get cut off, lose sustain or diminish the effects in front of your amp AND in the FX Loop. Enjoy!

thank god. every video I've seen about how to do this properly is awful. You explain it in a very clear and concise manner. Thank you for posting this.

This was the video that worked for me, and I watched alot of NS-2 vids. Not sure why this was the trick but now, my amps preamp hiss and my overdrive hiss is virtually both gone. Thanks man.

Thanks so much for this. My tone is now so clean I could eat off it.
I was about to sell my NS2 because I thought I couldn't get the noise down without affecting the delay repeats. Turns out I was connecting it incorrectly into the chain.
Now my swells are so clear, no noise at all and all my effects sound amazing.

This is the 4 cable method with effects pedals in the chain as well, I’ve got my first noise gate (KMA Pylon) coming in the mail Thursday and I did my research, it’s surprisingly hard to find that many videos on YouTube that accurately describe the 4 cable method with a noise suppressor and an amp with an Fx loop along with hooking it up with pedals that go into the front of the amp as well as FX loop pedals.

Nice job!

Seriously, this is the first video I've found that explained the combination of eliminating pre-amp AND overdrive hiss in 1 go. Thanks so much! Cheers!

Thanks for the video. Was messing up putting my tube screamer in front of the NS2 but this explained everything great. Noise pedal thru the loop is the way to go. No loss of signal or sustain versus going right into the front of the amp.

The video I was looking for. Now I just need to figure out how to use my pre amp pedal in the fx return while still being able to have everything else (tuner, boss ns-2, tubescreamer, looper) in front of the amp and still utilize the ns-2 for 4 cable method so I can "double gate" lol

The reason why it is complicated is that Boss should have named the outputs properly. Out should be named send and visa versa.

I absolutely love my MetalZone! Makes my Marshall MG15 running through my Marshall MX412A sound better than my DSL100H. (Bought new tubes so hoping to change that) but that’s how good it sounds. Thing about the MZ is meatheads turn it up to 10, that’s why dials exist guys.

Thank you Brian! I made three attempts at this hook-up using three other methods and none worked, then I found your video and hey presto! Just one pertinent question...where in the chain should I put the compressor?
All the best from here in U.K

Just my opinion but I would put the metal zone and whah within the send return of your noise suppressor and output it from that to the amp and then use the send an return from your amp for your phaser and delay. You could then use a foot switch for your amp to toggle them on or off.

Gonna use the same situation with a 6 bang eq to the front of the amp with a parametric eq into the fx loop
