3 Femoral Nerve Exercises (Meralgia Paresthetica)

Today's video covers exercises for femoral nerve pain and other symptoms such as numbness and tingling. Irritation of the lateral femoral cutaneous branch of the femoral nerve can lead to a condition called meralgia paresthetica.

The femoral nerve originates in the low back (lumbar spine) and is made up of nerve roots L2-4. The femoral nerve has both motor and sensory functions. The motor branches help control hip flexion (psoas major and iliacus muscles) and knee extension (quadriceps). The sensory branches provide touch, pain and temperature sensations to the anterior and medial thigh regions.

Very helpful. I had no clue what was happening when the sensation in my thigh was that of a thousand burning needles piercing my skin! Outch! The pain had me sit straight up in bed one night. It was terrifying. I later learned this is the condition I have, so these exercises are fantastic! I feel better already. Thank you!

I started having this nerve pain training weighted lunges and squats. I also feel a popping sensation in the hip flexor at the very top of the squats. I've avoided those exercises for about a year (replaced them with barbell hip thrusts and leg machines). I'm feeling stronger and ready to give my lunges another go. I'll be doing these stretches every day and before training. Will be taking it light and slow Wish me luck.

Thank you! i began using a stand up desk at work and it has been great EXCEPT this cold-burning-tingling in my left thigh was driving me nuts. Your instructions are clear any my leg already feels better.
One suggestion: make sure your feet are in view in videos. Their position makes a difference.

How does one get this nerve pain? I've had a sore back "flexor" I am told, for 4 months now. It feels like half of a tennis ball on my L3 which restricts me from bending forward. I can golf, paddleboard, etc. without pain) but bending straight my. I can touch my knees or sometimes my shins, but that's about it. I'm 53, in active menopause and pain from head to toe on a daily basis. Could my back issue be causing this new femoral nerve pain? My outer thigh is painful even to a gentle touch! THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO!!! Going to try these stretches this morning!! Much gratitude from Canada :)

I started to do this isometric wall to help lower by BP and it aggravated this condition, so im having intense iching and pain in my outer tigh! And im feeling some relief already! Thank you😊

I was in so much pain due to the herniated disc and the femoral nerve pressed that I was at the hospital for 5 days! Agony! Now waiting for a spine surgery still dealing with this horrible pain. I can only do the first stretch, everything else would not be possible in my condition. Thanks for the ideas.

I just want to cry. I ve been trying to figure out whats going on on my leg tense and not flexible after a biopsy on yhe upper level( my pain is on the left side right above my knee) i consulted but did not get an answer. THANK YOU SO MUCH 🙏 the Knot that someone mention i have the same thing

had pain on my left side went to chiropractor and he did his thing and woke up next day and it was on the right side wish I came here first it would have saved me some lute thanks

⁠Dr thank u for your brave honest opinion in informing someone enquiry here u dont think he needs an MRI under certain conditions which r helpful to people who cant afford to spend unnecessarily on medical bills 👍🏻 most Drs r afraid to do so for fear of offending their fellow Drs recommendations
