Thanks to your show I went to Lowe’s to buy 6 mil plastic sheeting to cover my windows and doors in case of a nuclear blast, so to keep the bad air and fallout from getting into my house through cracks around doors and windows and fireplace etc. thank you for the work that you do summarizing what is happening out there

Back in the sixties, surviving a nuclear war was part of our high school curriculum. The thing I remember most is that with most isotopes created in the fallout have deteriorated to a non lethal level after about two weeks. Some, however, last for thousands of years.

My dad was in the military for Germany during the cold war and did the same thing when he had us. We never lived in a city for this reason because he knew what nuclear weapons could do.

One thing I will say is that yes, even high end radiation detectors like the Mazur-9000 will tap out at a little over 1 millisievert, you are taking a significant hit and need to vacate as soon as possible. It is important to know about alpha and beta particles because while relatively harmless ON you, they are deadly IN you. Dosages at the max rating of this unit of 10 sieverts mean if you see that on the unit you are a dead man walking, and for not very long.

I got my old school 60s meters calibrated and dosimiters cost about 500 bucks for that piece of mind. My detectors have a 25-foot cable, so you can have the detecter outside the shelter and the monitor in the shelter.
