In a first-of-its-kind, India released the National Database of Sexual Offenders today. The registry has key details like names, photographs, residential address, fingerprints, DNA samples, and PAN and Aadhaar numbers, of convicted sexual offenders according to media reports. The database, which will be maintained by the National Crime Records Bureau, will also contain over 4.5 lakh cases. The cases have profiles of first-time and repeat offenders. Before India, UK, US, Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa and Trinidad & Tobago have maintained the data record. However, in the US, documents can be accessed by public. But in India, the details will be available only to law enforcement agencies. The decision to set up the database was taken in April this year following nationwide outrage over cases of sexual assault on minors. On this edition of ‘The Big Picture’ we analyse the NDSO.

Data must be made public so that the culprit do not get protected by the police agencies and politicians.
Lastly, everything is in the hands of police and enforcement agencies and ofcourse the state govt, plus the co ordination among these three.

Aswariya bhati and viren gupta both rightly said Family values are more important because crime starts from inside thee house... If we give them right education.... . how to behave with a girl or a woman.... this will help to reduce thee crime..and data must be made public so that culprit feel same among his family and society... Where he pretends a "sanskari man"....

The last comment of Mr. Singh is very strong and sufficient... And I think that hammer is with People of India. Once we all together in unity hit it hard, we will ultimately and definitely get a healthy society...

While all the initiatives mentioned are a must I think at deeper level something fundamental needs to change in our society and that is we must stop younger generations from suppressing their sexual urges and impart sexual education so as to teach them how to deal with it. Parents and teachers need to take this responsibility because otherwise they look upto movies, porn nad not to mention the countless rape incidents across the country.

Our country should make some stringent rules to curb these sexual offenders and set an example to society if you commit such heinous crime you'll be severely punished. People commit such crimes because they know they'll do away with it easily. It is also an issue of rampant corruption prevalent in our country and non-severe nature of the law.

Some practical solution which can solve the problem:-
1.Parents should involve their children in spritual activities.
Yoga should be adopted by all, believe me It will make everyone's thoughts positive and constructive.
2.Girls should be able to defend themselves.ex.well- trained in martial arts, Chilli powder etc. can be of great help.
3.A subject related to moral values, ethics should be imparted in school's syllabus.
4.Whole society should come forward in protection of rape victim till he/she gets justice and boycott of offenders till they get hanged.
All what needs is to change our mindset.

Rstv, please take care of the background screen of the panelists, continuous flashing of the screen, programmes and persons moving around.its very distracting

Naming and shaming is the way to go. We have tried stringent penalties on offender, public awareness and what not, publicly showcasing names of offenders will make family institutions keep an eye on their children because if they in the future commit such crimes the whole family would be let down in public eye.

One important point the panel missed, the organised/classified data can be used to predict the pattern on different dimensions like age, place, work etc. to prevent/reduce the future crime. Data can be used to extract useful information via machine learning to prevent such crimes.

As this is against the value system .so what's needs to be done is to educate the childrens and realize them how it brings the change in society and ya personality is valid point .

The Crux of these henious issues are value systems . Mam is absolutely right about declining moral/ethical value systems in the society that start from home itself. There is very famous saying 'Prevention is better than cure'.So why every time we have to focus on cure.If we can give half of the time to the prevention aspect i.e.focus on value systems, then we might strive towards postive and ethical society which eventually sets base to stronger India. Jai Hind.

the panellist selection should be done to ensure that 1. they are atleast aware of the topic in discussion 2. in every panel people with diverse view point are invited. unfortunately like today many times this is not ensured.
