When we talk of technology today, the focus is largely on artificial intelligence. Governments and organizations around the world are investing in and focusing heavily on AI. The pandemic has led the world to focus on new solutions for several problems through AI. In The Big Picture today we will analyse how Artificial Intelligence can be used for social empowerment.

We are almost 10 years behind in AI field compare to USA, China and few European countries.Becoming a leader in AI looks like a far away goal but not impossible if we increase and maintain the focus in it.

AI describes the action of machines accomplishing tasks that have historically required human intelligence.
It includes technologies like machine learning, pattern recognition, big data, neural networks, self algorithms etc.
Example: Facebook’s list of suggested friends for its users, a pop-up page, telling about an upcoming sale of the favourite brand of shoes and clothes, that comes on screen while browsing the internet, are the work of artificial intelligence.
AI involves complex things such as feeding a particular data into the machine and making it react as per the different situations.

How India can tap AI?
1)India should establish AI specific colleges where youth can learn related technologies like big data and machine learning as AI requires data and data should be correct, otherwise AI may not give correct solutions.
2) NASSCOM and Meity should work together to empower youth. Already GOI launched a portal on AI where one can get all related information wrt AI
3)To enhance digital base AI will help
4)New interesting, creative jobs

What happens if GOI doesn't react now?
1) India will have to buy technology from foreign and it results in more input cost not only to the GOI but also to the companies.
