On Dex:
- many of you mentioned that I completely forgot to mention Dex. I did not forget. Me and my team decided to intentionally leave it out, to make the Software comparison more straight forward and easier to understand, as there are simply a ton of differences and we wanted to avoid this turning into a 30minute video that a lot of you might have gotten bored with.

That was a mistake. We should’ve mentioned Dex.

However, it doesn't actually make a big difference when it comes to using the Tab S9 Ultra.

There are 2 DeX modes now. New & Classic

- New DeX looks the same as the regular UI, just with a redesigned task bar. The only advantage to this is that any app opens up in a window, rather than full-screen. Without activating New DeX, you can still achieve the exact same thing, by dragging an app to the middle of the screen, for it to open in windowed mode.

- Classic DeX is the one that most people are familiar with. This requires a restart and it lays the icons on the home-screen like on a laptop. It also redesigns the task bar to have a clock and look very similar to a Windows taskbar. However, you don't actually get any extra functionality other than this.

Most of the DeX functionality is already built into the Tab S9 Ultra's default UI. And Samsung themselves are also very much aware of that, as there is almost 0 mention of DeX at all, on their Tab S9 Ultra product page (it's also mentioned briefly at the very bottom).

Therefore, while DeX lets you open up apps in windowed mode by default, Stage Manager does the same and it is more powerful as it gives you the side bar preview on the left and easily lets you switch between groups of apps. DeX is better and allowing you to resize windows however you want though.

Still, neither are actually laptop replacements and you can get a far more capable laptop, for a similar (or even lower) price.

Daniel, I'm an Apple fan and I got to say you really pushed the iPad too much. It's beyond obvious that you cherry-picked a webpage that scaled to make the Samsung look worse. It made me feel uncomfortable that you'd purposely leave out Dex in this review. You are also not telling people how extremely useful it is when it's connected to an external monitor. As a subscriber I'm really disappointed you didn't give this an honest and fair review. 😕

Smh, this video is biased and skewed towards the ipad pro. For such a big channel, I expected plain facts and not fanboyism. How can you say the S9 ultra can't be a laptop replacement without even mentioning dex? Not all of us are power video editors. There are a handful of apps and games that are available only on the ipad and I and most of my friends don't have any use for them. If I want a console game, I'd play my ps5. I'm quite disappointed in this video TBH

Dex which wasn't mentioned changes the game being a far better offering that anything Apple has on the ipad. I am heavily in the Apple ecosystem and truly wish Apple would "upgrade" the ipad OS.

@zoneoftech, as an owner of both of these devices you left out quite a bit and were a lot more biased in this review. The tab s 9 ultra does have facial recognition just not Face ID. When utilizing the tab s9 ultra you can use Dex mode which allows for much more freedom when multitasking and resizing windows. Both of these devices are great and I wish that Samsung had control over there OS and get away from android as one ui is damn near complete. Apples file management on iPad is is complete garbage. Samsungs native file system is leagues ahead so when doing certain work it is much better. Both are great machines depending on what the consumer is looking for.

You forgot to mention Samsung's Dex. That's a huge advantage against the iPad Pro's Stage Manager.

The Samsung has a great aspect ratio for movies, the iPad has big black bars top and bottom and a small viewable video screen

I have a galaxy tab s8 plus and I love it!!! I use it for iditing videos for my youtube channel and taking notes and I have zero complaints.

You sure about those brightness numbers on that S9 Ultra? I have one and it doesn’t get that bright under HDR. Samsung quotes it at 930 nits maximum while Tom’s Guide measured the maximum at 834 nits on a 10% window. On SDR, the S9 Ultra only gets to 430 nits.
