9:55 In the story, we went to a clearing by a stream, in the woods. But things were simplified to fit within the TV time slot.

Huge fan of the Twilight Zone. Should be mandatory viewing to young people today. Almost every episode provides a teachable moment.

I’m amazed that a show so old can so easily foreshadow what is going on today.

"We're developing a new citizenry. One that will be very selective about cereals and automobiles, but won't be able to think." Rod Serling. And, here we are.

My boss when I was working would tell me to smile more. I would respond, "yes, I must think happy thoughts and say happy things or be wished away to the cornfield." She never got my reference.

Nancy Cartwright's fate in the film version was to be stuck forever in a cartoon. Oh, the irony.

How apt that the Totalitarian is an undisciplined child.

The totalitarian metaphor is superbly appropriate.
I was fortunate, as a kid, to have read the short story before it appeared on The Twilight Zone. Serling's adaptation was phenomenal.

'Wish it into the cornfield!!' is still a quote we hear. Those that know, know. I never thought about it being a metaphor for a dictarorship. But, I've been enlightened.

As a HUGE fan of The Twilight Zone, I love these breakdowns! I really feel like Rod was predicting future events and it baffles me! Thanks for this!

I remember seeing this as a kid on rerun sometime in the 80s and it left me horrified, absolutely horrified, still to this day.

It baffles me how Americas don’t see this happening today. I fear for my grandson’s future.

Mussolini also said "“Fascism should more appropriately be called Corporatism because it is a merger of state and corporate power.” People tend to forget that quote.
