If a child tells you something sexual - it’s not a child thing - it’s always an adult teaching them something. Never ignore this, there are plenty of things kids should not know or talk about.

Finally someone said it! I mean seriously, does TLC even do background checks on the people they produce shows for?

Big surprise that a man who wants to isolate his family ends up being abusive. Abusers like to isolate their victims. Even if it's their own family.

NEVER tell your abuser you're leaving. Make copies of all the documents you'll need secretly, make a discrete wig out bag (someone I knew used garbage bags), leave, and stay gone. Don't tell anyone where you're going.

No premarital sex unless it's your turn to be Dad's secretary? DISGUSTING. HE SHOULD BE PASSED AROUND IN PRISON.

Another reason to never trust any family that makes money off their children. Thanks for another informational upload, Summer!

The mom. We have to be more rational about "victim blaming". We've gone way too far the other way when we excuse neglect and emotional abuse because "don't victim blame". Her children TOLD her. She CHOSE to think of her daughters as liars. She CHOSE to look the other way even when the abuse was in front of her eyes. She sat in a meeting where she is confronted with it all and CHOSE to defend her husband.
That's not an accident. Both things can %100 true... a person can be abused and an abuser themselves. If you ignore your kids suffering, it's at the very least neglect. If you watch your children be beat and do nothing, you are no longer a "victim". Your poor children are.

Even before I saw his mugshot, his face gave me major creep vibes. He just had these eyes that made him look evil, even if he smiled.

I hold Brenda accountable for this, too. She was told by the girls what was happening but chose to live in her dream world and was obviously afraid of him.

I know that we always tell our daughters to never expect a man to come save you (and you really shouldn't go through life with that expectation), but Sean really deserves his flowers here. He truly loved Jessica enough to help get her out of that situation by helping her come to terms with the truth, helping her start over with his family and helping her achieve the new life she deserves. Most guys, especially in their early 20s, would just say that that situation is either too much drama, or none of their business, and walk away but Sean didn't give up on her or leave Jessica to keep living in that torment. Good on him and kudos to his parents for raising a good young man like that!

I knew the family dynamics were seriously off when ALL those kids “wanted” to perform the same style of music and they all “wanted” to be wrestlers.

Statistically there’s no way that would be the case. There has to be some strong controls to get everyone to fall in line and be so committed to pretending they were fine with it. So sorry for all those kids endured.

I'm sorry, any time someone has a pack of kids that they're home schooling and not allowing to socialize with other people, alarm bells go off in my head. Why are the parents working so hard to keep the kids away from mandatory reporters? TLC sees that and says "Ka-CHING!"

these enabling mothers/ partners really disgust me..not as much as the evil perps themselves, but...😵🤮

The “standard” for TLC is “the more unhinged the better“. A friend of mine had a show on TLC. It was cut short because she didn’t have a devastatingly dramatic lifestyle. She was too normal.

The mom should be doing time. Imagine getting sexually abused by your dad & knowing your mom also knows 😭

Toby knew that isolation was key to his continued abuse.

I remember watching this show and thinking that the dad was a jerk. Sorry to find out he was much worse. Thanks for covering this story. Well done.

It breaks my heart that this monster ruined those children to the point that the kids couldn't trust and rely on each other. He pit them against each other. My sister and I never got along. Our rooms were next to each other. I heard her sneaking out and coming home when we were in high school. My friends had siblings in her grade, so they always told me when she'd skip class. I never told my parents. Even though I'm 37, my mom said something a few months ago about how my sister probably used to sneak out of the house. I'm grown. My sister is grown. We don't talk to each other except for birthdays, Thanksgiving and Christmas. I still didn't say anything. My mom can't punish either of us for her sneaking out. But I'm still going to play dumb. I always thought my parents were strict. But as an adult, I'm so grateful for the way that I was raised. They were strict. But when I hear horror stories of how others grew up, I hit thr jackpot. As an adult, I know how much my parents sacrificed for us and why they were strict. They didn't want us to squander the opportunities they were working to provide for us. The difference between good and bad parents, kids will go back to visit good parents. My husband and I spend our days off with my parents. We go on vacation with them. My dad is my husband's hero. My mom is mine. I hope that those children find peace and healing. I truly believe that there is a special place in hell for anyone that abuses children, the elderly, the disabled, and animals. It's our job to protect the defenseless.
