One thing to add, to retrieve the full resolution photo, you need internet and good data signal. Most of the time that will be fine and nothing to worry about though.

seems misleading. if the iPhone user transfers their pictures and videos to the iCloud for them to free up spaces on their phone, they would have to delete the pictures and videos after. deleting these will also result in the pictures and videos being erased from the iCloud which defeats the entire purpose.

Thanks for the explanation about internal storage and iCloud. I'll be switching to the iPhone this year from Android since I still debating to get either 512GB or 1TB since I plan to use it to last me for at least 4+ years. My current phone is the Samsung Galaxy S10+ with 128GB with 512GB microSD card but I'm always running out of storage.

Based on your explanation on iCloud, I don't need it since I rarely take pictures or record videos but I do play a lot of games and watch and download videos from streaming apps on my phone.

I just called the iphone support and they suggested to do Backup again and maybe delete some photos/videos before you optimized your photos

My photos are synced to icloud yet they take a minimal amount of storage of the local storage… also i kept it on optimise storage

I moved my photos and videos like your other video to the iCloud Drive. There is nothing on “my iPhone” in files. But when I look at my iPhone storage it says the iCloud Drive is taking up a lot of space now….?

Very good and well explained.
However, 1 more thing to clear upp at this point regarding to the internal physical storage of any apply device (iphone, ipad, macbooks etc.). if you delete a photo from one device it will be deleted from ALL your devices including the iCloud. Be aware of that. When you select the optimize storage option over your phone, it does drop the Physical Storage Space on your iPhone, as it keeps only a "Pretty Looking Thumbnail" of your photo/video (With Lower Resolution ofc), and obviously keeps an original resolution copy over the iCloud Storage. But if you delete that "Pretty Looking Thumbnail" from your iphone, You are going to lose it from your iCloud Storage as well.
Another point to remember for those who can forget this point, once you delete something from your album (Photo/Video), it stays in your deleted folder for 30 days, so you may remove something lets say today, and can still see in in you iCloud Storage Drive, don`t be surprised, it just works this way :)
