Child abuse can get you as little as one year probation? Unbelievable. Everyone has failed this child. Can you imagine living with a parent who would even consider punching a child in the face and making his nose bleed? Poor child. He must be terrified and the case should not be closed ever.

Back in the early 2000s, the California courts weren’t getting any supplies, office or even updated law books due to a holdup in the state budget. We were at an early morning ex parte hearing I’d set and won, order in hand waiting to be signed. Absolutely *no one* had a pen. My youngest was preschool age and I always had a pack of free restaurant crayons in my purse/briefcase. There is an original order in the files of the San Bernardino County Court system granted by a still sitting judge signed in blue crayon.
