As with any show that claims to have communication with the supernatural, Ghost Hunters has always been a bit controversial. The show ran on the Syfy network from 2004 to 2016, and it was brought back to TV by A&E in 2019, albeit with a mostly different cast. Despite the beliefs of the cast members, plenty of viewers are skeptical of just how real Ghost Hunters is, with stories from the set suggesting that things aren’t exactly as they appear. From the technology that they use to the time that the show crossed the line, let’s take a look at the untold truth of Ghost Hunters.

Do you think any of the hauntings on Ghost Hunters were real, or was the entire show a big scam?

I stopped watching when during a Halloween special Grant was pulling a hidden string to make his jacket look like a ghost grabbed him. It broke my heart. I had been a massive fan for years. I remember the internet was on fire after that Halloween special because so many people saw the same thing.

I would love to ask them how the people on the show can “always” hear everything but the mics that are suppose to be able to hear a mouse walking by can’t hear a thing??? Also, why are the cameras on them all the time and never facing what they are looking at??? If we are suppose to see ghosts, then we should be looking at what you are looking at...not at your face. We know what you look like.

I remember the show was originally called "TAPS".

I read somewhere an interview with Jason Hawes where he was asked what the worst thing about doing the show was, and he said that not having final say on the editing of the show. He said that SyFy was making the show too Holywood or something like that.

I used to never miss an episode, until I saw things that convinced me they were faking stuff. That was it for me. Never watched them again.

Supposedly, the original Ghost Hunters TAPS team debunked the Moss Beach Distillery (in CA) ghosts, when they found motor devices mounted up in the ceiling, to make the "haunted" hanging lights swing back and forth, and they were severely pissed, as the Moss Beach staff were so smug, thinking "these guys will never figure this out". Turns out two plumbers for Roto-Rooter, used to climbing around crawlspaces *can* "figure it out".

as a past fan, I do believe the original ghost hunters had the best intentions and sincerity with doing some actual ghost investigating, or debunking, as the case may be. And I absolutely think they caught some interesting stuff. But the hauntings are far and few between for a weekly show to maintain and it just got away from them a bit. They had a good run and alot of us liked to watch, what we ourselves, dare wouldn't do! LOL

I honestly watch it for the history aspect. When they walk around and talk about the history of the place and who died and who killed what or whatever

If you really watched the show you would know that the K2 meters were often used to debunk ghost activity. The Taps team often went in looking to debunk ghost claims, not necessarily prove them. Often times the leaders, Jason and Grant, would find wiring or plumbing that was causing odd noises and odd light activity, etc.

I really liked the first 2 seasons of the show. I'm convinced that they falsified a lot of evidence, but it was still entertaining to watch and there was just enough suspension of disbelief to keep me watching. From around season 4 and onward, the show just became a complete circus. The drop in ratings most definitely played a role in that.

Having listened to what is being said here, l
can tell you this as fact. I am associated with Wildomar Movie Ranch, and one
of the items on our menu is unique production property in California. We were
contacted by Jen from production at A&E's Ghost Hunters. She and one other
producer were interested in one of our properties, 290 acres in Coulterville
CA. This property had been the actual site of an Indian Massacre, also on the property,

bodies had been discovered under the floorboards of a structure built in the
1850s, one with a slug still inside the skull. We represented
the owner of the property while in talks with Ghost Hunters, the main sticking
point, neither of the 20 plus year owners of the property had ever felt the
presence of anything paranormal or anything that could have been used to bring
the program to the property. After 5 or 6 go-betweens and a direct property
owner and GH conversation, nothing could be positively confirmed as paranormal.
A&E's Ghost Hunters bowed out of the talks, as "they would not
fabricate an episode". So, as far as I'm concerned, Wildomar Movie Ranch
lost a big chance to have the Hunters come, but they showed to us one thing,
that the show had integrity! Thanks. CK Sussman

As soon as any paranormal show tries to legitimize dust as "orbs" I'm out.

The "jumping the shark" moment for me is when, during the live show with guest "The Miz", you can hear the producer tell one of the team to ask him a question (forgot the question) and of course the infamous moment when Grant's coat is "tugged" on which later on it's discovered that Grant fondled with something in his coat pocket the moment that had occurred suggesting Grant pulled the stunt. That was the end of Ghost Hunters for me.

The wheels began to fall off of the Ghost Hunters bandwagon when they televised the Halloween Live broadcast at Fort Delaware in 2008 with Grants infamous "Jacket Tug" ....

Not sure if this video is meant to discredit them, but if so, I think that was done pretty poorly.

Grant’s infamous “jacket tug” was a stunt by the producers during a live show to up the views. So what? Every other aspect of this show had a rational, logical, science based approach. It’s expected that the producers will salt the episodes with some staging, but I really believe it was few and far between. This was the most genuine ghost investigation show ever televised.

Shows like Ghost Adventures stays on the air bc it’s all so fake and staged to the point of being outright ridiculous. But that’s what people want to see. Non-stop activity, evil spirits, “possession.” People get bored with real shit bc they want more action than what a genuine investigation will yield. It’s an unfortunate reality of entertainment.

I was a doubter until I had an encounter myself. I never freaked out though and I thank this show and their approach to the paranormal. “Think normal before paranormal, natural before supernatural. Try to find an explanation to the occurrence and when you exhaust all the rational explanations, it might be safe to assume it may be paranormal”
It was their approach to debunking a haunting that ironically led to their cancellation. Viewers want to see ghosts and poltergeist activities.
I still prefer Ghost Hunters over all the other paranormal investigation shows where people go into locations with the mindset that the place is haunted from the get-go.

There's a line in a lyric which says "We suspend our disbelief-We are entertained". If you are one of those who constantly complains that 'thus and such' could not possibly occur in real life, you need not watch. Even if you have experienced something not readily explainable, you still understand that some things on TV shows have to be dressed up a bit in the overall effort to entertain and to app[y a simple illustration to a more complex event.

Simply put: if you think it's fake don't watch and, if you feel the need to uselessly trumpet your disbelief, think about it a little bit more then SHUT UP and let the rest of us enjoy our entertainment.
