This video tells the untold story about the various legends that have made Helltown, Ohio (OH) infamous for decades. From ghostly apparitions to spooky cults, and even Satan himself. We go in depth on this supposed gate of hell in this episode of Mystery Archives. Discover what truly happened in Helltown.

Boston Township in Summit County, Ohio is known by another name, Helltown, thanks to legends and folklore about so-called hauntings and satanic activity in the area. The township was founded in 1806, and since that time the National Park Service has taken some abandoned areas through eminent domain.

I have to laugh when people claim to have caught glimpses of bizarre cults doing ritual things. Back in the 80's my husband and I lived in a communal home with a big picture window by the dining room. A terrific thunderstorm woke us all up and I invited everybody down to have cups of cocoa to settle their nerves. My bathrobe happened to have a hood on it which I put up to keep my head warm as I handed out steaming cups of comforting goodness. Some neighbor then started a rumor that we were conducting dark rites in hooded robes at midnight, with thunder and lightning flashing all around us. (what he or she was doing out in an electric storm I have no idea!)

Anyone else love that feeling when you discover a new youtuber you like and realize they have an expansive backlog of videos you get to watch?

I think the scariest part of this story is what our government did to those people.

In my hometown the local college forced people out of their homes, bulldozed them, and planted grass in their place. One retired couple said they were paid half of their home's value. They ended up having to live in a trailer so the college could plant a lawn.

I rode on the bicycle trails for decades and liked to stop at the abandoned general store next to an old-fashioned gas station. It was kind of creepy, but not scary. I had NO idea of the history. I would probably not go back now. It's part of a national park now and really a beautiful, peaceful area.

Hey I just wanted to point out that gore orphanage is not in helltown. Helltown is in Boston Mills and the orphanage is in vermilion. The orphanage area itself is quite spooky and I know people who have experienced weird stuff there.

I'm from Ohio, this was interesting I didn't know of the Hell town in the state or anything else about it being abandoned, let alone the mythic stories of it, thanks for the information about the place.

The most terrifying part is people being ejected from there homes. My family suffered the same fate in an area not far from this one thanks to the TVA.

i grew up in “hell town” well peninsula which is also within the park, never saw any creatures or cults. its pretty boring actually, it’s a cute little town. the only truth here is that the government did force people out of their homes.

Its cuy-A-hogA valley, and im Glad you included the gore orphanage story in here, teenagers from all over Ohio would go to stay as long as they can at night before getting freaked out and leaving, or getting chased out by jeeps full of people trying to scare them away.

I was interested due to the fact that I'm from Ohio and I have lived here all my life.
As soon as you started talking about the place that caught fire and the children dying. I knew exactly where you were talking about. It's very sad and a crazy story.

The sulphur smell was probably the Cuyahoga river, it was so polluted it actually caught fire.

I live about 25 Min away from here. I remember going to a concert with my mom as a teenager, the place it was held at isn't far from Helltown. We got lost and found ourselves driving around, in the dark, in a little abandoned looking town with a church smack in the middle. Rocking chairs on house porches, the wind rustling through the trees, and the general eerie feeling all around made for an exciting drive. Nothing odd happened, but the energy there is electric. Haven't been back in at least 25 years.

I'd vaguely heard of Helltown before via the series WEIRD OHIO. But this is definitely a much better breakdown of what happened. Will be subscribing and checking out the rest of your content. Really loved stuff like this.

What happened in Helltown is exactly why we have a second amendment.

There's a new horror film that came out this year called 'Antlers' produced by the great Guillermo Del Toro. It should be loosely based off of the attack by the Wendigo which was here in Helltown.

This was well narrated and the period video was great to add to the story. Great job on a story I wasn't aware of, but truly makes my blood boil with what happened to the residents there.

ive personally explored Helltown (Boston) Ohio during the day. super hard to get there via car, id say bring a motorcyycle due to all the sharp turns, but its really not that creepy. the slaughterhouse is repainted bright red, most of the houses still standing look actually really nice, and for the few abandonned structures still there, theyre boarded up and out in the open. also theres like a general store thing going on in the center of town with events and stuff going on. its not exactly a ghost town anymore, more of an active park that a lot of people go to during the spring and summer. its not all bad there believe me lmao

So no one seems outraged by the actions of the government and that is the real problem
