Grew up in the foothills of Appalachia. I was taught to always close the windows/doors & make sure windows were covered at night. My great grandma always said to never to look outside after dark & that if you think you heard or saw something out there, no you didn't. You need to mind your business because nothing happening outside after dark is anything you need to have dealings with.

I recently heard about this place from my mother who is a CT native. The folks here call Dudley the “quiet corner” of CT, very eerie. During the 1980’s, Connecticut had shut down a majority of the mental health hospitals, and released mentally Ill people on the streets with nowhere to go. One of these individuals ended up at my parents church. I was 2 at the time and have no recollection but I was told my father decided to give one of these mental patients a ride home and drove to the quiet corner. This man was very primal looking from my mothers description, almost like a cave man or one of the aboriginal people. It wasn’t till my father was deep in the woods with no town lights in sight or any civilization that this man threatens to paint the road red with my fathers blood. God spoke to my father and told him to agree with every outlandish thing this man said, and my father obeyed. The man then told my father to stop in the middle of nowhere and the man got out of the vehicle and ran into the woods, while my father sped off. Evil exists in this world and I can see now why this area is closed off to the public. The scary part is, people without God live next to us everyday exactly like this man and we have no idea. It’s important to walk with Christ because we have no idea how much evil he protects us from in this world. - A son who is very grateful to still have a dad.

How have I been on youtube for nearly 20 years and never thought to look for things like this?! Suddenly my feed is flooded with amazingly narrated, slightly spooky history videos and I am here for it!!!

Grew up in CT. Been to Dudleytown several times before they closed it to the public. Never saw or felt anything untoward save for the stone foundations still visible. Actually quite peaceful woods.😮😮

Yup, never choose mining instead of farming if you don't want strange things to start happening.

Connecticut resident here. We used to try and get into Dudley town as teenagers but the local police constantly watch it. You have to hike through the woods to not get caught.

Dudleytown maybe historic...but given its reputation... it's probably for the best that no one can go there

Dudleytown was THE story that made me interested in paranormal stuff when I was a little kid. It scared the hell out of me back then and always stuck with me, but no one ever talks about it. So I was really pleased to see this in my recommended. Nice video!

As an Irishwoman, I can say that this is giving definite Daoine Sídhe vibes. If there are hawthorn trees in the area, those are linked to portals to the sídhe. Basically, the only way to protect yourself from them is don't build on their land, and if their presence is in an area, enact the strongest boundaries (and i don't mean walls or fences) around your property that you can, and keep iron horseshoes in your home and maybe on your person.

Great story !! Another popular theory as to why Dudleytown is so cursed is because the water in that area may have been contaminated for hundreds of years.

Back in 2016 or so myself and a friend of mine decided to take a mini trip here. It’s only about 30 minutes from us. We were told to be very careful and to not let anyone catch us up there. We drove and as we got up the hill there was an older man walking down. We were lucky enough to meet him and he allowed us to use his driveway. I remember I asked him “ where does the haunting begin? “ 😂 he told us that we had just passed it and it actually started at the barn. He also told us to be very careful. He had been living up there for yrs. Although he told us a few stories I do remember him saying that at some point a lot of people lived up there and then one night out of nowhere they all upped and left. We of course asked why. He said “ no idea “. One thing we did notice while walking through those words is at some point all sound stopped. Everything. There were no bugs, birds, or anything. That’s when we decided we should turn back around. We recorded from the moment we stepped in there. We didn’t see anything scary so to say. There were just little weird things. Hearing crunching of leaves right behind us as if something was coming up and then turning around and nobody was there. There were are a lot of orbs but again we can’t prove much with those either. I would go again if I could.

I’ve heard the story of Dudleytown before but it’s still creepy. It gives off Silent Hill vibes. 😳😬

I have been there many times. What so bizarre is you’re in the middle of the woods and you don’t even hear a bird chirp. It’s completely silent. You can’t go there anymore now it’s blocked off signs everywhere you will be prosecuted.

I’ve lived in CT my whole life and about 24 years ago, me and a group of friends visited Dudleytown. We went very late at night/early morning and man is that place eerie. The feelings you got as soon as you walked in is like no other. Very dark and sad. There’s little tiny firefly-like lights high up in the tops of the trees leading up to the entrance to the dark forest. They never stop lighting up and they lead you into the forest. I’d heard they were the spirits of the children that passed there leading you into the woods. We stayed for a few hours and walked around looking at all the house foundations. That was the only thing that was left. We were extremely lucky to not be caught because the neighbors and local police don’t take kindly to tress passing there. So please, don’t visit. This was 24 years ago and is much more guarded now.

One of my favorite stories. I loved your final words of warning, too. Realistic but creepy at the same time.

Ergot poisoning from the wheat used to make their bread. A very common issue at that time in history. Mold and spores from poisonous wild mushrooms/toadstools growing in the heavily forested region are notorious for causing hallucinations. A respirator and goggles could aid in a safe exploration with proper permissions ONLY. I believe there may be a simple, medically sound explanation. Also there I a need for soil and water testing, as I suspect presence of heavy metals and/or other highly toxic agents at play here.

This episode by far is my favorite. I love how well you laid this story out. I am a History major and an aspiring historian and I genuinely appreciate the time you take to research and provide historical information in your episodes. Thank you!
