The first time I went there was in the mid-late 60's. At that time most of the buildings were open for people to walk through. It was somewhat hazardous as the floors were falling apart and the structures were crumbling. But, the fascinating part was all the old furniture, bed frames, stoves, and misc. items that were still in the homes. There were old medicine bottles and such in various colored glass strewn about and old rusty nails just laying in the dirt. There was one park ranger who lived out there, but no amenities (maybe a portable potty or 2). I believe that's where I fell in love with history. I went back 20+ years later, but everything was roped off and not much left to discover. If you close your eyes and concentrate, you can feel the energy of those who lived there. It is definitely worth the trip!

I visited Bodie in the late fifties. We arrived just before sunset; the wind blew mournfully through the town with the only sound being the banging of a tin roof. The atmosphere was palpable and we felt the veil separating us from the past was thin. We we returned some years later, it was a park and the feelings we had on our first visit were gone. So glad to have seen Bodie in its pristine condition.

My brother is named Bodie after the town. My grandfather started the Bodie historical society. His father owned one of the silver mines. Later he moved to Markleville Ca & then eventually Bishop Ca.

I grew up in Bishop, CA which is about 90 miles south of Bodie. Schools often would field trip there as part of our mining history sections (back in the 90s). Having visited Bodie several times I can honestly say that the town holds all of its memories still to this day. It feels as if you were to look at the precise right angle, you'll peer through a rip in the fabric of space and time and see a mining town booming in all its glory. It's incredibly strange and, despite being empty, entirely lived in. Anyone who has grown up nearby or has ever called the Eastern Sierra home knows to NEVER take anything from Bodie. It will follow you wherever you go. Thank you for a great video!

Since visiting Bodie, I've always wondered why the people left all of their belongings. I named my dog Bodie after the town!

There are too many cases of people taking things from Bodie and later returning them due to bad luck for there not to be something to this supposed curse. I can't help but wonder however, if you were to take something from Bodie (say a particularly nice piece of quartz or something similar) and left something in return (like maybe a $20 Bill or a nice hunting knife or something similarly useful back in the day) if you would still fall victim to the curse or if whoever is responsible for the curse would recognize it as a fair trade and leave you alone. If I am ever fortunate enough to make it to California I would like to try just to see what, if anything, happens.

The other day you asked which video is our favorite . It's impossible to answer, because this whole series is just fantastic. Spotlighting random places, discovering and laying bare their secrets, I love the whole channel

Bodie is an awesome place to visit. My wife and I went there as part of our honeymoon and we plan to go back when our daughter is a little older. Also, during October they do nighttime tours with scary stories by the fire. I haven't done one yet, but I hope to some day.

Great video! I visited Bodie in 1977, when I was 12, and I still consider it one of the creepiest places I've ever been to. The best way to describe the vibe I felt is "wrong." I would love to return one day with the maturity to truly appreciate it. One bit of trivia shared by the ranger who led the tour I was on that I have not been able to corroborate with any information on the internet was this: he said that, an addition to residence leaving behind belongings and food, a body was left behind in a coffin in the mortuary. Yeesh!

My great great great great grandmother is buried in Bodie. Whenever we visited, there was always something in the air that really made you feel the history of the town. Seeing her grave it always hit me how much she must have lived through in this town and how it unfortunately didn’t last very long.

Well, their first mistake was naming their mining town after the guy who died, because of his greed for gold..I get why it would have been a nice gesture, but I feel like that place was already haunted by something before he got there if he was willing to keep mining over having food.

A two year old burnt the entire town to the ground? Even the babies in Bodie were little outlaws. Stumbling around drunk on breast milk wearing nothing but a cloth diaper with holsters on the side full of matches and little baby cowboy boots, spitting gobs of goo from a long piece of black licorice that's hanging out of it's mouth with a bad attitude like it hasn't had a nap in a fortnight.

My parents took me there in the summers when visiting her family. I think it changed my life in that I became so interested in history and the paranormal. My mom would always pat us down to make sure we took nothing. My first time was in the mid 70’s. Haven’t been in awhile. I should make a trip back with my kids now.

I went up to Bodie in 2015, all the way up to the entrance, but the road looked too treacherous too go to the town. I wish I would have gone there
