Very few teaching procs bother to break down teaching the serve into these basic structural parts and show you how to carry out and practice each of them. This is why James and OTI is so invaluable. If ever I was showing a player how to serve, this is where I'd begin. It's that essential and that good.

No mention of breathing patterns integrated in the service motion? I found that focusing on my breathing in my service ritual has helped me concentrate and generate a better rhythm. Inhale on the toss, exhale on the swing up to contact.

Compared with other channels, the explanation is straight forward, simple, effective and augmented with slow mo half screen videos. Excellent! I really like your method!

Great job at breaking down the most complex motion in tennis in one short video. My favorite part of the video is 0:03 guy with hands on hips just watching your ball get blasted.

Excellent video. For newbie’s be aware that when the ball is added, all hell breaks loose. You can and should practice the toss and there are drills for establishing ball contact with the continental grip and leading with the edge. If you are learning or training the full motion then film yourself. You will need this and/or a coach as a corrective and you need tons of repetition at first with and without ball. I taught this to myself 40 years ago alone without corrective (no video) but I was quite gifted at body and ball awareness, became a certified coach later without ever having one and have seen a lot there. Come back to this vid and compare it with your video. To give a feel: I did one hour on court twice a week on serve alone and in about one or 2 months satisfying results got in in matches. I had only the result as a corrective so a bit faster and better is possible. Enjoy tennis!

I always had confusion on holding serve grip. Method of drawing the line from index nuckle to heal pad is a great idea

Excellent breakdown, but a couple things that I didn't see in this video. 1. Where the weight shift comes in. 2. I thought that you should also turn your body to the right as you bring your hitting arm back & then turn rotate back as you bring the racket to contact. If this is incorrect, I'd like to know whether you coil your body.

Nice explanation! Leaving out some details is ok. Should mention that not a single pro is hugging himself till the very end. The motion is only complete after "step 7.5/8" the non hitting arm travels to the side or behind the body to regain balance. But maybe thats only needed for players who generated enough power with their body before, i dunno. But if you jump on the serve it defenitely helps with balance after landing. If you are athletic 3.5/4.0 player who is practicing serve from time to time or play 2 times a week, i can advise learning to jump a little on serve. Really helped me to generate more power and have a more efficient arm/racket swing.

Excellent video on the fundamentals of hitting a solid serve. Your entire body seems to be twisted to the left when you contact the ball.Should the average club player emulate this extreme bend?

Do you do player server video analysis technique suggestions? I'm only after 1 serve full analysis not a memebership or other videos to watch like a one time fee thing. Thanks!

2 elements are not mentioned in this video. The first is the knees bending - how and at what point in the sequence - and the second is how to create the different spins - slice, topspin and kick serves.
Please provide infor. Your 7 step progression is excellent but withese 2 added elements it will be fantastic!

I'm having a problem where after I do my racket drop, I loose all speed. Its almost like the downward "drop" part and the upward "swing" parts are totally separate motions, which takes away all the power I would get from the drop. Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?

Keeping the head up is a nice but not necessary on the first serve. Nadal pulls his head off early as do quite a few other players. It takes a lot of reps to be able to do it like Nadal though. On the second serve since contact is more glancing it is more important to keep the head up.
