Just wanted to say thank you to Chris for doing these reaction videos! You have been awesome, informative, and a genuine highlight of my day. I'll definitely be sticking around for all of your discussions in August! God bless you, sir!

Fastest and most useful analysis out there. Thanks for all your hard work Chris! Hope the algorithm is kind to you and your channel keeps growing. You deserve it!

I’m really sad to see the reaction bardic inspiration go. That was a much more useful and fun feature in my opinion.

Treatmonk youll need to do a deep dive into ranger spells once NDA is over to see how much concentration conflict we have

I am not upset with the Magical Secrets change at all. Ranger, Paladin, Warlock, Sorcerer and Artificer spells are very specific to those classes. Honestly seems weird that a Bard could just pick them up. Wizard, Druid and Cleric have most the spells you’ll ever want anyway, and now that you can pick up those spells every level from 10th on, definitely makes it worth it.

Overall I do think ranger is a lot better than people are giving it credit for, but imo where ranger still dissapoints is that it doesn't really have a true iconic core ability. Barbarians get rage, rogues get sneak attack, etc. etc. Hunter's mark seems to be what they're trying to put forward as that iconic feature for rangers, but if we're saying "don't use it if you don't want to, " that feels bad when you see all the other classes consistently being able to make use of their iconic abilities. And even if it wasn't concentration, hunter's mark doesn't exactly excite me. A bit of extra damage isn't very unique. The tracking aspect of it is nice, and pretty ranger-y, but pretty niche.

You, Colby and the Dungeon Dudes should record a one shot using the new rules to release once the NDA drops.

Power Word Heal adds one of the exactly two (reliable) ways of actually removing the Stunned condition in the game (yes I'm still talking about this lol). I mean, unless things have changed so there is that. And now you can use it on two allies simultaneously. Think of all that value :P. Psychic Scream ain't got nothing on Bards.

August 1st will be a great day for ttrpgs.

End of the DnD NDA, but also the release of the Player Core 2 book for Pathfinder 2e remaster.

chris keeps saying "any 9th level spell" when we all know he means wish

The problem with ranger is not the 1st level feature, it's that they based 13th, 17th 20th lvl and sublclass features on hunter's mark. As a 1st lvl feature hunter's mark is ok.

The thing I like about the new magical secrets is that it opens up spell design space. Want to make a class that has new, unique spells tailor made for that class? You don't have to worry about making it too good outside of that class.

Even if the limit functionally only protects primarily the half caster's identity now, it's also just more freedom for the designers in the future. That's never bad.

People aren’t mad that Rangers get Hunter’s Mark for free, they’re mad that multiple high level features only work with a mediocre first level spell.

I always wondered what DM is measuring real in game time to the 10th minute. I really wish they would change durations to align with game mechanics. 1 minute spells last to the end of the encounter. 10 minute spells last till the end of the next encounter. 1 hour spells last till a short rest. 8 hours spells lasts till the end of a long rest. That’s my system and it works perfectly well.

The warlock dip for Valor bard is going to be way too tempting.

54:13 It's not just a 1st lv feature, its a 1st, 13th, 17th AND 20th. That's where the feels bad coming from

Also feels like Valor Bard plus a level dip in warlock for cha to weapons and eldritch blast agonizing blast is going to be one of the central builds

For the ranger, imagine if the paladin instead of getting divine smite, got a free casting of the divine favor spell, and then improved divine smite made it not break concentration on damage... that would be pretty meh. Most people would hate that.

Base ranger doesn't have any features that make it stand out from the other martials, besides being a half-caster. So essentially the ranger spell list has to do a lot of heavy lifting.
