I am Puerto rican. I live in a US controlled colony. A war prize from the Spanish American war of 1898. We cannot vote for the president. Our only elected federal oficial has no vote either. The US invaded us. They made us citizens in 1917 to get more soldiers in ww1. They control everything here. The economy. Banks. Industry. Communications. Our ports. We cannot make a single deal with any country without the state department's permission. We have now an unlected federal oversight board that runs the country for all instances. And this guy called us garbage. We have survived not because of the US government, but instead of it.

Great analysis Leeja! As a European viewer, I find that one major weakness in US education is that Hitler is painted as "the ultimate monster". People seem to forget that the character who gained such a large following and came into power was an ordinary man; a charming speaker who provided an easy solution for a frustrated crowd. Even today, I'd reckon pre-genocide Hitler would win elections around the world.

And more importantly: Hitler would have been insignificant if he was alone. Instead, he had thousands of followers. So most importantly, the history lesson that Americans don't seem to be taught is not "protect yourself from the monster" but rather "don't become the monster".

One of the most eye-opening books I've read regarding this topic is "Becoming Evil: How Ordinary People Commit Genocides and Mass Killings". Highly recommended! ❤

My late grandmother, an immigrant who was raised in Nazi Germany, had compared Trump to Hitler. She would tell us about her first hand exposure to propaganda as a child, and how the press was always saying “we’re winning the war, ” despite history telling us otherwise. Normally I have a hard time taking anyone seriously when they compare any politician to Hitler, because Hitler is just a buzzword now. But to my grandmother, Hitler was a real person with very real power and influence over her childhood, and he remained a bittersweet (but mostly bitter) core memory she had to carry for the rest of her life. When someone of some such background compares Trump to Hitler, they aren’t sugar coating it, they mean it with a straight face.

I used to think that the Hitler to Trump comparisons were overblown until I watched a documentary on hitler and realized that trump was saying all the same things 😬

My dad won’t speak to me anymore because he’s tired of me comparing Trump to Hitler.

He’s not mad at Trump for QUOTING HITLER, he’s mad at me for pointing it out. These are the people who support him.

the opportunity to vote against Hitler doesn't come around often

Trump uses verbatim Hitler lines that, ironically, I can’t quote here because then I’d be flagged for hate speech

Studying the rise of Hitler in school, I was always particularly frightened by the idea that he came to power with much popular support. Seeing the rise of Trumpism, particularly in this election cycle, has so many horrific parallels to that story of 1920s/30s Germany.

As a Christ-follower, it legitimately pisses me off just how many 'Christians' openly treat Trump as though he's the second coming of Christ. In reality he's a GILDED COW; their golden calf, a false idol surrounded by false prophets, simple as that

PLEASE be aware of your surroundings if youre voting on election day. The man in AZ who was arrested for shooting up the Democratic campaign headquarters THREE WEEKS IN A ROW was planning on a mass casualty attack on election day. We are in for a very dangerous few weeks.

Hubs and I voted on Sunday, love to all the election workers out there!

I think a sad reality is that, while we were all taught about WWII in school, it seems that there are many people who learned the wrong lessons. There is a shocking chunk of the population who seems to believe that the Nazis were bad specifically for how they treated the Jews, rather than looking at Hitler's Germany as just one example of what happens when *any* ethnic minority group is dehumanized, ostracized, and targeted by the government. This is why the same people who say they hate fascism can very easily support the actions of Netanyahu's government.

What I'd really like to know is when exactly did treason become not only legal but perfectly acceptable to half the country???
I find it unpatriotic AF

I can't be the only one that misses when politics were boring and that when a president won we moved on and accepted it. Our political landscape now scares tf out of me because half of us are openly welcoming fascism.

Hitler: You people can’t take a joke. I have absolutely nothing against France or the French. I even vacationed there and checked out the Eiffel Tower!

So they say they love the country, but they do realize Puerto Rico is part of the country right?
