First expedition to Titanic wreck since Titan sub disaster | BBC News

Rory Golden was on the Oceangate expedition when contact with the sub and its five passengers was lost on a dive to the Titanic in June 2023.

Those who perished were British explorer Hamish Harding, the British-Pakistani businessman Shahzada Dawood and his son Suleman, Stockton Rush, the CEO of Oceangate, and French diver Paul Henri - or PH - Nargeolet.

Rory Golden was a close friend of PH - a veteran deep sea explorer.

He is now on the first expedition to the Titanic since the tragedy - an expedition that PH Nargeolet was supposed to be leading.

I was reading that each time the Titan Sub made a dive, it got weaker, and an accident like this was inevitable.

each time it was exposed to the immense pressure of the deep sea, the carbon fibre got weaker, and of course, the weaker it got, the less pressure it could take over time.
