How simple was that explanation!! The best I've seen and even with pieces of paper. No fancy tutorials or fancy computer models. Just easy to understand pieces of paper showing how the shutter works with and without high speed sync. EXCELLENT!

I've always fascinated with high speed sync, and so far this tutorial is bar none the best demonstration on you tube. Thanks for the effort making this tutorial possible. Awesome and keep up the great work!

That really sorted out some of my misconceptions about high speed sync. Probably the most easy to understand and straightforward explanation on YouTube! Thanks dude :)

I've been shooting Canon since 1978 and I understand high-speed sync (HSS) perfectly well. But I've watched several videos about it today just for something to do. Your explanation was, BY FAR, the best of all that I've seen. Most people don't illustrate how the flash would fire when the sensor isn't totally exposed. (Canon won't let the speed go faster than 1/200 when a flash is attached and turned on.) I would also mention that you can shoot in the middle of the day and make the background completely black using HSS, TTL, a fast shutter speed, and a small aperture. It's pretty cool.

I'm a total beginner. How do you atually set the high speed sync? is it on the camera itself or on the external flash?

Great Video! Can you use this using pocket Wizards with-out TTL?

hi there, just have a question how can you put 1/2000 of a sec. since you are just using built in flash as a trigger for your off camera flash…..what i know is built in flash just have 1/320 maximum sync.

Thanks. Great information.... I learned his a few years ago and have applied it only a few times but a good refresher. And simple enough for beginners to understand.

I always wondered how to use a flash in broad daylight without an ND filter or making the aperture smaller. Thank you for taking the time to make this.

hey..i have a nikon d800e and a sb910, i tried doing the same thing.. it works great with oncamera flash, but is not working off camera, issue is that the moment inbuilt flash is popped out (for commander mode) the shutter automatically goes to 1/250(Flash sync speed is set to 1/250*) and the shutter does not go above, the maximum is 1/250. what should i do for this? please reply???

Will HSS work if I have a manual flash with a central contact only?

Excellent tutorial. I’ve been thinking about Yongnuo 569 Mk IV but it doesn’t do hi speed sync. I am reconsidering my purchase.
