You probably should have several steek stitches between your actual sweater pattern. Just add them when casting on. They won't be part of the circumference of the cardigan. That will give you 5 to 7 stitches to cut in the steek and not accidentally cut the body. Also cut from the reverse side its easier to see where to cut. Then, fold back and sew down loosely before picking up for your button band if you choose to pick up and knit that on. Hope this helps.😊

I learned how to knit continental style and it is SO much faster, especially when you learn do norweigan pearls you just fly through it all. You should give it a try!
I haven't tried steeking yet I'm too scared 😂

Steeking is great, super versatile technique. Please ignore if this advice is unwelcome but for the future when you have big blocks of long floats in stranded colorwork you can try a technique called ladderback jacquard for managing them invisibly!

There's a cardigan pattern that I plan on knitting that has seeking. I'm terrified 😂 but also excited to try something new. Where you scared before you did it?
