Skin Things (Part 1)

Skin tags (acrochordons) are harmless flesh-colored growths that occur in areas of friction. They can increase in number during pregnancy and are rarely associated with diabetes.

This type of growth can easily be removed in the office using an alcohol swab and sterile scissors or liquid nitrogen. Once removed, they don’t recur but you’ll often get more in the same areas

Although they’re harmless, it’s best to have any concerning growth evaluated by your doctor

My husband started getting these around 10 years ago, along with some darkening of the skin in the same areas. A few years later he was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. If you have these and even suspect you may have high or fluctuating sugar levels, please get it checked out.

My grandmother, who would be 135 if she were still alive, taught me how to get rid of skin tags without going to a doctor. You get thread and tie a piece real tight around the base of the skin tag, leave it on until the skin tag falls off. What happens is the thread, tied tightly, cuts the blood supply to the skin tag off, causing it to die and fall off after a couple days. I used to have a couple skin tags after my first pregnancy and I used my grandma's method and it works. Years later and I don't have any skin tags or medical bills!!!

I started noticing these on areas like my armpit and side of the neck. While I wasn’t necessarily obese, I definitely was in the category of overweight based on my BMI. I learned this info that it could be metabolic related and I started cutting back on sugar and heavy processed fats, like canola oils. Well, I’ve not only lost a bunch of weight, but not even kidding, my little skin tags (had 4 or so) are now completely gone!!

The skin tags might be "harmless" but they are an indication of a metabolic issue. You can cut them off, but ideally you'd change the underlying issues.

Yes, friction can cause them but insulin resistance is typically they they grow. It also causes a darkening of the skin which is usually hormone related. Sugar causes hormone issues and Insulin resistance.

Excess sugar, including simple carbohydrates, causes an imbalance in many of our body's hormones, including insulin and estrogen, leading to insulin resistance that can lead to many healthy problems including weight gain and, eventually, heart disease, cancer, or diabetes. This is true for men and women. Children as well.

These have been appearing for every female in my family once they're in their middle 30s and greatly increasing after child birth and again after/during menopause. My mother has it, my grandma and all her sisters have it, my great grandma had them, my aunts also have them and they don't go away for us no matter the treatment, it just brings back more so everyone just accepts and leaves them alone.

I always had these for years then decided to cut all sugar from my diet they disappeared so I agree this is the first signs of type 2 diabetes which my whole family have I have managed to escape it through a very good diet and keep my weight stable

Thank you for associating them with other diseases. That just made a lot of sense to me now. I had one on my neck and I do believe I suffer from insulin resistance. I don't think things show up in your body for no reason.

I kept having the sensation of tickling on my back once. Put my hair up. Still tickled. Hm. So I feel around as best I can and manage to feel a single piece of hair. I think it's a stray bit so I tug it quickly off. Long story short: a piece of hair had gotten knotted around a skin tag on my back, suffocating it to death, and I ripped it all off as casually as someone might flip a coin. I stared at my strangled skin tag for a long, long time.

You can use salicylic acid and they dry out and fall off or use tea tree oil and dab each one with a q-tip.

My grandma has me pull out a piece of my hair and give it to her and she ties it around her skin tags and cut them off. I think it cuts of the circulation so it falls off????
