This movie is a masterpiece from opening scene to the heartbreaking and utterly devastating finale. A film you will never forget

I have seen this movie several times, and each time I was so devastated by the ending that I just sobbed and sobbed uncontrollably. No movie has ever affected me like that. A masterpiece.

I remember watching this movie in probably 1982 or'83 numerous times with my late grandfather back in East Moline, IL. Many years passed (2022) before I watched it in its entirety again ironically while I was wandering thru Turkey. A few days later I just happened to make my way down to Gallipoli battlefield. Visited Lone Pine, ANZAC Cove and the Nek. The Turks take extraordinarily good care of those hallowed grounds.

Remember seeing this for the fist time as a kid on tv during a back to back matinee whilst the folks were away (followed up by the Willie Nelson/Gary Busey classic Barbarossa - another little known classic from that era). Took me far away to far places and deserts, but never forgot the dramatic music and theme especially the Adagio then known as Albinoni - almost as impressive as the classical score of Barry Lyndon. But also, in juxtaposition to the classic pieces, the modern simple beginnings of early 1980's electronic music in films, such as used in the trailer and during the pyramid race, which had made its way into box office films such as Vangelis' Chariots of Fire, which continued to be used in period pieces like Ladyhawke or the Name of the Rose. That being said, yes definitely a solemn reminder of the tragedy and uselessness of the Great War on all sides, up there with All Quiet on the Western Front, should be mandatory viewing for high-schoolers.

I was knocked-out by this film when it came out, but after watching this trailer I'm not encouraged to re-watch it.

Peter Weir, a genius, tackles a very sad and incomprehensible military campaign. Very tough to understand.

0:03- Excellent, I always wanted a cross between Saturday Night Fever and Tucker Carlson Tonight.
0:13- Gallipoli has me sold on a couple of things: Mel Gibson and that radical synth score.
1:05- This movie didn't fare too well being released in the U.S., no matter how many laser sound effects they put in the trailer.
1:18- Don't know what that movie's about, but I wanna listen to the soundtrack while playing Grand Theft Auto: Vice City.
