One of the best motivational speeches in one of the best opening scenes from one of the greatest movies of all time. I am proud that I have a signed portrait of Mark Lee on my wall. This movie means so much to me.

I was lucky enough to visit Western Australia a decade ago. This scene does an amazing job of capturing a sense of the place.

Just before any competitive sprint I race I always mumble this phrase to me, it helps me mentally so much

Before every sports day, this is what I say to my boys. Works a treat.

Great film, one of the best ever.

Whenever I pass under the Adelaide Railway Station, I think of this speech and I am brought to tears.

Thank you for this.
That trainer was so like my Dad.
Brings deep joy of his coaching me through school.
I was the only one that went on to become a professor.
Exactly like Andrew Cuomo, I could feel my Dad watching over me, and his quiet joy when I made it.
Thanks for this.

Yes indeed....a great depiction of the futility of politicians' wars and the unnecessary deaths of so many young men and civilians

Best Uncle ever. But he should've grabbed Archy by the throat and told him not to join up. But we know the script...

He actually ran it in 12.5 secs, I timed it!

Love this scene, but if the two men were 100 yards apart the sound of the whistle would take approximately 0.27 seconds to reach Archy. Not insignificant in timing a sprint race. Although, come to think of it, I suppose he could have started his stopwatch when he saw Archy move.
