Sheev Palpatine’s journey to the dark side began in his youth as he collected Sith artifacts and unlocked their forbidden secrets. Following his triumph over the Jedi, fate intervened, altering his plans when Darth Vader fell to Obi-Wan Kenobi on Mustafar and was no longer able to realize his full potential in the Force. To inspire his new apprentice, Sidious turned to his collection of arcane treasures, providing Vader with the surviving fragments of Darth Malgus’ journal from the Great Galactic War. Sidious hoped his apprentice would draw connections between himself and the ancient Sith Lord. Both Malgus and Vader had defiled the sacred halls of the Jedi Temple, led armies, and sustained serious injuries that forced them to rely on life-sustaining respirators. Sidious’ intent was to turn Vader’s physical torment into a wellspring of power and develop the same unwavering allegiance Malgus had for his Sith Emperor. Palpatine envisioned Vader as the embodiment of his will, an unstoppable enforcer of his dark reign.

But Malgus was incredibly disloyal to the emperor 😂 He tried overthrowing the empire multiple times

Like Palpetine, I was hoping Vader could be more like Malgus, but Vader was a broken man. Malgus killed his wife to bring him more power through the darkside. Vader killed his wife out of rage and regretted his actions. Anakin was still wanting a life with a family, having not achieved that created a void in Vader he could never fill. Vader never let go of the past, he was trapped by it. Malgus looked at everything in his life as either a benefit to elevate him or problem to deter him. His wife, up to the raid on the Jedi temple, was a benefit that made him stronger. When she got injured and Malgus felt for her, it revealed a weakness his enemies could exploit. Vader and Malgus, though similar, were too different for Palpetine to use in the capacity he wished.

Malgus did not have unwavering allegiance to Vitiate (his emperor) however. See the Ilum campaign in SWTOR for details. He sought to become emperor himself.

Palpatine wanted so badly for Vader to be his ultimate weapon, but gave him the worst possible life support solely because he feared he would not be able to control him if he ever reached his full potential. As smart as the emperor was, I feel like he constantly got in his own way trying to remain one step ahead of everyone else

God a movie or show on Darth Malthus would be so cool. Or just something on the old republic era in general(as long as they get people that care to make it). There’s so much to explore and so many good stories that could be told. Honestly I think it would be super cool if they did it all in the swtor cinematic style of animation

Malgus is such a badass that he managed to pose a threat to the Outlander, who at this point had already defeated Vitiate at least twice (assuming he is not the HoT).
My friends complained that bringing him back in Onslaught is a bad idea, but I think it fits his character. Besides, his fate in FE is kinda lame.

What's with technology in the Star Wars universe? ... It seems like they haven't improved upon anything in hundreds of years to the point where an old Sith master had access to the same sort of life support technology as Vader. I remember reading The Adventures of Han Solo and in one of the stories, they find an ancient droid army that's just as deadly or even better than modern droids.
