-------

This week on POLYCOSM we look into the new "Sculpt Vertex Painting" feature added in Blender 2.9 Alpha. I demonstrate the difference between the old mode and the new and improved feature, what Vertex Painting is useful for, and how to paint b&w masks to feed into the different shader-inputs such as roughness, metallic, alpha, etc.

WANT TO LEARN HOW TO BECOME A MASTER SCULPTOR IN BLENDER?

A few weeks prior to taking on the Xerocole project, I took a CG Boost course called "Mastering Sculpting in Blender", which taught me -everything- I needed to know in order to create this sculpt in Blender. Zach Reinhardt covers literally EVERYTHING you need to know about sculpting in Blender, and a bit more. If you're interested in levelling up quickly, I couldn't recommend a better course than this.

----------------------------------------------------------

POLYCOSM aims to bring you high quality tutorials looking into concept creation from a 2D -AND- 3D perspective; taking a concept from a rough sketch and turning it into a fully visualised 3D model.

The channel is run by Freelance artists Christina Myrvold and Omercan Cirit who both work in the entertainment industry on a full-time basis.

We want to show you how to come up with creative ideas, use reference efficiently and how to generate different concepts in the 2D stage that can be then interpreted by a 3D artist in a full, detailed production pipeline.
Lastly, we want to share technical tips and tricks, showcase different 2D and 3D workflows and just create awesome art together!

If you’re interested in purchasing any of the 3D models made in our videos, or want to download some freebies, make sure to visit our online store:

Wow you're explaining this so well, I don't think this can be done any better. What a great, super helpful tutorial.

Trying this out in Blender 3.2.0 Alpha, and happy to report it now has color palettes. :)

Great video, thanks a lot. I recently painted with the old vertex color mode and it was so slow. By the way I have a tip for picking the right color. Switch the shading of the viewport to flat and you can see and pick the right color.

you can make color palette as jpg in gimp or krita and color pick in blender using image editor window. I find Blender kinda buggy when I close and reopen the file I am working that it doest save the palette I created sometimes, so I always use this technique to avoid making color palette in Blender. (Extra tip) and I go to File > External data> Check automatically pack into .blend so it will pack what ever image I open in Blender.

I just realize that the vertex color has not supported in multires or subdivision modifier yet. Scratching my head for two hours for why the brush stroke was not showing LOL

Has this vertex sculpt paint being disabled in the 2.90 release?
I can't find it anywhere in the experimental tab.
I only get "Undo Legacy" and "Cycles Debug" as options

Is this available in 2.92? It doesn't appear in my sculpt menu buttons and it doesn't appear in the Experimental part of the Preferences window either.

I download Blender 2.92. I went to «Interface» in Blender Preferences, check «Developer Extras» under Display. The «Experimental» tab pop on the left.
However, under this Experimental tab only appear "Debugging Tab" (with Undo Legacy and Cycle Debug) and I don't see any option to choose
New Feature and Sculpt Vertex Color.

Any advice ?

To clarify, In the Sculpt Tool I don't see any Vertex Paint Tool as well.

Thank you in advance,
Adam

Cant find a paint brush in 2.93 or v3, it just isn't there in the space where your brushes sit - any idea why? reset to factory defaults downloaded blender to a different machine ... and still no visible brush in the menu which is fully scrolled down hmmm
