Heart-stopping near-misses: Dashcam captures school bus close calls

The Hortonville school district released this compilation of drivers passing school buses with flashing lights, caught on dashcam video. In some cases, there were close calls with children.

As a former school bus driver, I can 100% attest to these videos. It's sad, infuriating and disgusting the lack of caring about children. The average stop is less than 30 seconds! A child's life isn't worth you losing those few seconds??? The stories all drivers have will break your heart and make your blood boil.😢

In the second clip, the bus driver should have been in the right lane when stopped to pick-up and and disembark passengers. That would have clearly stopped any traffic from coming up in her left side.

In all fairness, you must keep in mind, there is NO RETRACTABLE STOP SIGN ARM on the passenger side of the bus. The red automobile that continued forward might have thought the bus was stopped to make a left turn.

Blimey! I live in the UK and even I know that you don't pass a school bus while it is loading/unloading kids in the US.

I had a woman go off on me because I blocked both lanes of a road so a group of young girls could cross safely to get to their softball game. I also happened to be on the board for our town softball league. The lady was losing her mind because she had to wait an extra 20 seconds. Then she stopped next to my car to scream for another 30 seconds. I smiled and waved, told her those children's safety was more important than anything she had going on. She then sped away, the road we were on is 25mph. A cop camped out in the church next to the field than pulled her over for speeding. I have been living off the high of that instant karma for the last 2 years.

When I drove a bus I always made sure I was close to the curb on the right side so that idiots like that red car didn't try driving past me on the right. It was actually a requirement to do so for the children's safety.

People the stop sign is there for a reason !!! It is to help keep our kids safe. If you don't have kids fine . But you have an obligation to help keep everybody else's kids safe !!!
