I don't think Palpatine's plans would be ruined...I mean...all he needs is the Clones Wars to happen and they would regardless of Anakin or Obi-wan. The Seperatist movement was already started, the Republic would grow more and more authoritarian and corrupt as the war went on...the only thing that would change is that the Republic loses the Negotiator, the General. The result would still be the same though, with less victories for the Republic.

I'm still intrigued by Obi-wan free to do what he will...he'd definitely be drawn to helping people. I don't think he'd settle on Mandalore...unfortunately because he deserves a happy ending. He'd be so consumed with guilt that he'd be pushed towards service, for redemption so he'd move around, nomadic as he still serves the Jedi's original purpose as peacekeepers and as the Negotiator and as one of the finest tacticians and fighters in the Order, he'd be very effective even by himsef.

The age difference between anakin and padme is only 5 years, in episode 1 anakin was 9 years old while padme or queen amidala was 14 as far as i know. so its 5 years (maybe even 4 and a half) and not 7 years...
