How to make pickles crunchy!!

Hey folks, this is some tips I have learned from my quest for the crunchy pickle.

I can not stand soggy or soft pickled items. I started on baby food and will finish on it...I'm all good for right now!!

Tip 1

Cut off the blossom end. That is the opposite of the vine end, where the flower comes out.

Tip 2

Salt your cucumbers to remove water.

Tip 3

Add tannins in the form of a single oak, grape or bay leaf.

Tip 4

Ice them down, the colder the better.

Add a comment if you have a trick to keep it crunchy:))

This was straight to the point and I really like that! I'm a chef but just started canning a few years ago and never "got" why my pickles were not crunchy....now I do...thank you for the informative video--I'm also partial to musicians which I take that you are...I'm 58 and just started to learn...bluegrass type and LOVING IT! Have a great day out there! Rich & Dawn in MN

Great video. I was doubting myself because I can only afford large cucumbers in to see a video of somebody using regular cucumbers really set my mind at ease! Thank you!

Two years ago we used these tips to make sweet bread and butter pickles and juniper berry pickles. They are STILL crispy. This is a great video. Thank you for sharing with us.

Great video. My husband loves crunchy, salty, vinegary hot cucumber pickles (Lebanese style). I am in the kitchen using your video right now. Two questions stopped me dead in my tracks: 1) The amount of salt: two tablespoons per cup of water (at 4:50) or two tablespoons per liter of water (after the math - at 5:15)? I went with the second one. Doing the math, I get a little less than 1 1/2 teaspoons per cup. First one is deadly salty! 2) Bayleaf tip: does the bay leaf alter the taste? I added one Serrano pepper per cup of water. No dill. That turns the recipe into Lebanese style. But I get the crunchiness from you!

"A little bit of dirt never hurt", is what my Pappa used to say to me. He Also used to say that we needed to eat a pound of dirt a year to keep growing well.😁 Thank you so much for sharing these great tips and your brine recipe.
Blessings ❤
