For a biker, torque equals how aggressively the bike is willing to pull at a given speed. That's why it is so important to research how a bike delivers its torque. For example, most inline 4 bikes (aka most supersports) produce their maximum torque at high rpm, which means you will have to constantly be riding the bike at its limits to actually enjoy its full potential. If you never really get close to the redline, then you will hardly feel the bikes potential and it might even feel weak at normal city cruising (mainly talking about 600 supersports here). Comparably, twin cylinder bikes mainly make their max torque at low/mid rpm, which means you will be able to enjoy the bike's full capability without going all out all the time. You can be city cruising or enjoying backroads etc and being at half throttle, and you have full power at your disposal anytime you want at the twist of the wrist. That's why bikes like the MT-07 is so popular, because it lets you access its full potential without riding it at its limits, and in city riding it will beat most 600 supersports that on paper have almost 50% more power. Then if you get it out on highways and high speed curves in canyons or on a track, then it will show its lacking peak power because you will be riding mainly at its limits where it no longer have the guts to keep up with the supersports.
So if you have a lot of highway riding and long stretches and big empty curves with little traffic in general, then a supersport will fit you just fine. If you mainly do city riding, traffic jam riding, backroad riding, etc. then a more commute-based bike will be more enjoyable. "commute-based" does not mean less fun. It actually means it will allow you to have more fun in commute-settings, where the supersport would actually be the least fun bike to ride.

Torque is one of the main reasons I bought the KTM Superduke 1290 R.

I keep telling you, just remember electric motors have massive torque instantly. You are now in Austin where there are two electric motorcycles I wish I could testdrive. Please do it for me so I can live vicariously through you.

You should mention that "torque * rpm * constant number = power"

I like this style of content. It gets outside of the heavy “new rider” style while still being beneficial for the new riders. Keeps us old guys interested ya know

Finally pulled the trigger on my first bike, a 2014 FZ-09 that I picked up about 4 weeks ago. Love the amount of torque the bike produces, always making for such a fun ride. Pappa yamm always putting out great vids & info for anyone interested in either getting a motorcycle or learning more about them.
