The feet that washed ashore in the PNW area were generally, to my knowledge, disarticulated due to the natural decomposition process. The reason why so many feet washed ashore during this period is due to the buoyancy of the materials used to make modern shoes, like trainers/sneakers. So far the feet/shoes that have been identified have belonged to people suspected of completing suicide or of dying in boating accidents.
