Entertaining. If you're not concerned about facts getting in the way. Billy the Kid wasn't killed in "Fort Summer, " Tom O'Folliard didn't have trouble joining the Regulators as he and Charlie Bowdrie were 2 of the Kids best friends (the 3 are buried side by side), and the Kid's last words were: "Quien es? Quien es?" Kinda makes you question everything else after that beginning...

What starts tuff lives ruff and ends ruff. At least one can say all of these people stayed true to theirselves all the way through the end. No squirming and excuses. More than can be said for the majority today.

My favorite 'last words of a condemned man' come from a different source than the wild west. It comes from the French Revolution when Thomas De Mahay was to guillotined. Upon reading his death warrant he arrogantly said "I see you have made three spelling mistakes." The guy had cojones.

Also some of Bill Longley's last words: “I see a good many enemies around, and mighty few friends.”
Also some of Sam Bass‘ last words: “If a man knows anything, he ought to die with it in him.”
“My mother always said that I would die with my shoes on.” – “Big Steve” Long’s last words after having asked to have his shoes removed before he was hanged.
- and not last words of an outlaw - but fine last words nonetheless:
“Cowards never lasted long enough to become real cowboys.” — Charles Goodnight

That wasn’t Tom Horn’s last words. I heard the hangman was having trouble getting the noose around his neck and Tom said “Ain’t losing your nerve, are you, Joe?”

Billy the kid had an engaging façade, it's no wonder why people took to him.

Not sure why Tom Horn is even mentioned in this story as an outlaw. He was not an outlaw. He actually had quite a background as a U.S. Army scout, lawman, and detective with the Pinkerton Agency. He didn't rob banks and trains. And he never killed a man that didn't need killing.
And there was that time he assisted in the talks with Geronimo. Tom Horn spoke Apache and was the interpreter during the talks General Crook had with Geronimo, negotiating his surrender. Geronimo requested Horn at the talks, because Horn was the only white man Geronimo could trust to interpret correctly.

Over 80 years later, in a mock modern-day trial, Tom Horn was acquitted of his charges for lack of evidence.
He was framed during a botched confession by Joe LeFors. And Walter Stoll, the county prosecutor in the trial, was up for re-election. Who were the real criminals here?

Horrid fact checking. Billy the Kid's last words were, "Quien es?" or who is it? as he entered the room of the owner of the house Billy was hiding in as he could make out only barely in the dark that someone else was in there. Pat easily identified Billy silhouetted in the doorway and shot him.

The infamous female Pirate Anne Bonnie said to her lover, another infamous Pirate, Calico Jack, "If you had fought like a man, you would not be dieing like a dog." I bet Billy the Kid knew this quote.

I'm sorry my friend Billy the kid lived to be an old man.

After Rufus Buck was hanged in 1896 a photograph of his mother was found in his cell. On the back, Buck had written a poem:

I dreamt I was in heaven
Among the angels fair;
I’d near seen none so handsome,
That twine in golden hair.

They looked so neat and sang so sweet
And play’d the golden harp.
I was about to pick an angel out
And take her to my heart.

But the moment I began to plea
I thought of you my love.
There was none I’d seen so beautiful
On earth or heaven above.

Notice how Justice was actually served. Now its like He killed 5 people because he was having a bad day. 90 days in prison and a slap on the wrist. 😒

The (nearly) last words from a notorious outlaw of the old world, Mathias "Hias" Kneißl, a bavarian robber and murderer, after receiving the notice of his death sentence on a monday: "De Woch' fangt ja scho' guat o!" (The week is off to a good start.) His last meal were six pints of beer before he was guillotined.
