people always say that “with ai, people wont need to work for jobs, people can enjoy life and be creative and follow their passions” but that will fundamentally not work in an economic system that is built around labour and a transaction of currency, and actively punishes those who cannot work, i cannot imagine it

once ai takes over a large enough chunk of the work force, how will people earn money? what will this do to the value of money? universal basic income? at that point is money even necessary? what will happen to those who become replaced? will they be left to starve? what happens when your job gets replaced?

The whole idea of developing AI (like Chat GPT) are to replace humans from every possible job. The cost of labour is the highest percentage of producing everything. In this never ending race to make things cheaper, that is next step in production chains. Replace people with AI, because right now you paying only for electricity to run the machine/computer running AI. You do not have to pay salary, pension, health insurance, etc.... There is old saying "If you do not know what is about, it is definitely about the money"

You say mindless repetitive job, Lew says spiritual meditation. I'm thinking that Will is talking about the safeguarding of burnout from isolative activities and Lew is all about consistency, specialization, simplicity, dedication, and reliability. Ironically they're saying the same thing and only appear to have opposing views. There is a time and place for both work and play. They don't have to be the same but can be equally fulfilling. The main differentiation that Lew is pointing out is Self-centered fears and pessimism vs simply being helpful and giving to the community and society. Wil is simply pointing out that Burnout and deterioration of mind, body, and spirit do not make for a helpful worker. Lew is saying that there is a way to manage burnout and diminishing returns through balance, self-regulation, and perspective.

On people stuck in a repetitive job, AI won’t help them. If they are not capable of learning to do more and creating opportunity for their-self, how can AI taking their repetitive job help them?
