ABOUT DR JUSTIN SUNG
Justin is an ex-medical doctor turned full-time learning coach. He's passionate about taking a very practical and evidence-based approach to learning and self-management. Unlike most study influencers, he has extensive experience actually working with real people, rather than just looking at theory or anecdotal tips to make videos about. He's worked with thousands of people around the world for over 10 years, teaching them to manage their studies and time more efficiently using novel and rigorously field-tested techniques. Justin is the co-founder of iCanStudy, which developed the world's first fully integrated, high-efficiency learning system using cognitive retraining approaches.

I always feel like he keeps saying simple things in a complicated way

The notetaking app that Justin uses for that infinite canvas is called “concepts”

For mind numbing facts, flashcards and note taking software with backlinks such as Obsidian are essential if combined with spaced repetition. If we're talking about making connections and conceptualization, infinite canvas will make more sense. Just make sure you label your files correctly and your handwriting/drawing is legible + easily searchable/indexable!

I did my formal learning before phone apps existed. I used paper... but basically in this way. These days my learning is mostly incremental and immediately and extensively applied, which definitely aids retention, familiarity and conceptualisation.

"offload cognitive resources to represent that schema in a single format" just say you want to make notes bro

How much should you put in one canvas? Should all notes from an entire class or book be on one canvas? Or should you use a new canvas for each chapter. (And maybe have a master canvas for for the big ideas for the whole class/book?)

Genuine question asking as a noob. What's wrong with the default Samsung notes drawing app on Samsung tablets? Just that it doesn't have an infinite canvas?

Honestly, you should look back at the way you edit and present the infor in your short videos. It's not straight to the point. You just keep pushing around the bush and say some unessary stuff that can skip right away. Sometimes, you talk so long that one of your points abrutly reach the end of the videos. Seriously, I enjoy your long-form videos, but I'm sick of these irrevelant shorts.

I use ColorNote, very simple with notes, checklist and calendar which is all I need in a note taking app.

I use Excel and Numbers as an infinite canvas. It's pretty sick ngl. Way better than anything else, no lag too

I finally reached this exact same conclusion today as well. What a coincidence I found this video on the same day

You are explaining something as simple as 'jotting down my thoughts' by phrasing it as: "Off-loading cognitive resources...to do higher order thinking...to represent that schema..." Not everything is rocket science or clinical psychology. Sometimes simplicity works best. Turning such as extremely simple but useful everyday activity into something esoteric and ivy league, you gate-keep and put off those who need it most.

Very well said! Best communication of value and power in the need of uniform adoption and application of a pkm.

Havent viewed your vids in ages but you eerily reminded me of and speak a lot like Justin Sung who I got heaps of ads about for some reason back in the day. Except he just speaks waffle and common sense for an excessive amount of time. Anyways glad to see you’re back

I use Obsidian, I found graph view very useful, but it took me a little time to get used to markdown
