Grew up in NYC metro, never even been to the Midwest. But I believe this tragedy and the subsequent resurgence of the town speaks to the enduring American spirit. I watched my community endure and rebuild after 9/11, and Sandy a decade after — and I’ll never forget turning on the weather channel immediately after this disaster and coming to tears knowing how serious it was. My deepest respect to this community, you will always be in my thoughts and prayers ❤️

I live in Moore. Good to see Joplin recovering too! Great people live in this area of the country. Godspeed.

Stories like Matthews are the reason why I feel so terrible about the “injured” during events like this.. because the numbers are way way way higher and not many take into account cause they’re just ‘Injured’ because hey they didn’t die and we are all very grateful for that, but they’re dealing with pain and health problems decades after.. could you imagine pulling splinters embedded in your body for 10 years from straight wind speed.. may all those who died fly high and may all those affected in anyway live life as easy as they can..

After the tornado my father built a tornado shelter in our garage due to the fact we had to hide in our neighbor’s basement. I know absolutely no one without a shelter in Joplin now.

My Mom was born in Joplin. We were at a family reunion in California when we heard about the tornado. A few relatives were in Joplin and survived. Thank you for sharing how the community has rebuilt stronger. Love the butterfly reference.

Thank you all for putting this on YouTube. I don’t really watch TV but I do watch YouTube and follow you on social media. I saw you were doing this documentary and was hoping you’d put it on YouTube. Thank you.

I watch a lot of tornado videos and this tornado is the most horrific I have ever seen! To the people of Joplin my heart still breaks for you and the lives lost. So happy to see how well you have rebuilt! I pray it never happens to you again!

Thank you for the coverage and keeping our town's name out there. I was in this tornado behind the Walmart that was hit and my son graduated that day and we are safe and sound. I would like to bring up a couple of things. We were told it was over a mile and half wide and over 250 mph winds. You also forgot to mention the community of Duquesne that was also hit by this storm and was more devistated damage wise than Joplin. I can't help but thank all of the volunteers, EMS, Police, and Fire enough in our time of need.

It is now 2024. My uncle lives in Joplin. He recently told me he had been working with a church. I asked what kind of work and he said, "Building houses."

What breaks my heart most of this, was the fact these houses DIDNT have basements! I live in St.Louis and we all have basements and Joplin is closer to tornado alley than we are and I never understood why their houses weren’t properly equipped

I live in Springfield, about 55 miles from Joplin. This was a horrific event. I work for Cox Health at Home, at the time, called Oxford. The tornado destroyed our Joplin office.

Could you please include the names in text format for those who are totally blind who listen to this video? It would really be appreciated. I can remember them in my prayers. Thank you so very much.

My heart breaks for those killed, but the one thing that sets human beings apart is that when we're pushed and backs are up against the wall, our determination and never say die attitude is remarkable, we're resilient and will claw and scratch out way back, when human beings are forced in a corner, watch out, there's no other being that'll fight to survive like a human being.🙏
