I lived through that day. It was beautiful. They were just testing the sirens I said....
Then all hell broke loose. I am lucky to be alive. Thank you for telling your stories!

Not many communities in America have had to endure the extreme levels of physical and emotional trauma the way Joplin has. It seems difficult to even imagine a storm that could so completely ravage an entire American city like that tornado did that day. Even people who have experienced tornados in places like Texas or Oklahoma probably couldn't have conceived of the catastrophic weather event that struck Joplin and wrought such complete and thorough destruction. Hearing the cries of the people huddled in that walk-in cooler, one gets a sense of the sheer terror they felt. Listening to the folks in the video describe the buildings they were sheltering in get ripped apart is just shocking to mind.
All of these people are the absolute heart and soul, and it's so horrible to think that they had to endure such profound physical and emotional trauma. What's worse is that they had to bear witness to the tragic loss of their family members, friends, and neighbors while also discovering the destruction of so much critical infrastructure necessary for preserving life.
How did they hold themselves together when they approached the hospital, only to realize that it was all but completely destroyed?
Their first night in what must've looked like a complete warzone must've been so surreal and long.
The lack of information in the hours after the storm must've been so brutally difficult.

I can only imagine how hard this was for these participants to give us this presentation, though I also understand how healing this is for them. Thank you for sharing this with us.

This is really well done. The best video I have seen about the Joplin tornado. The stories told by the eyewitnesses are riveting.

This brought me to tears what a powerful Testament. The Power of Love and Jesus brings us together even in tragedy. What these poor people endured is beyond my imagination. God bless every single one of you.

This is a sad story but at the same time it's a heart touching story. It proves to us that with God's mercy and grace we can get through life's storms! ❤🙏🙏

When I 1st heard of the “Joplin EF5” disaster was on the Weather Channel ‘Storm Stories’... I was fixed on this as a new widow with 3 school-age children in Virginia… Never ever could have imagined that I would 10 yrs later be living an couple hours away from Joplin ... but I will say that this episode of ‘Storm Stories’ brought me to tears then... BTW I love the little town I live in now in SW MO & my heart still goes out to Joplin

I always find it sad and fascinating when people ask "why?" or "what if?" regarding traumatic events that occur in their lives. People must accept the randomness of life to feel peace within themselves; that we control so little of what happens to us every day, every hour, every minute, every second. All around us are thousands of people, equipment, vehicles, objects over which we have no control. Many people who cannot accept the randomness of life foolishly believe some god is controlling their lives; that believing in a god will somehow protect them or make sense of their life. We must do the best we can with our lives, plan our lives as best we can while understanding that, at any time or anyplace, our life can be changed forever and there is nothing we can do about it. Peace to all.
