Screens prevents insects etc. from entering are known here as: Horren, raamhorren, deurhorren. You can order them online or pick them up at a hardware store.

For bugs we have 'horren', for sun we have 'screens', for burglars we have 'rolluiken', for condensation we have 'thermopane', and for mice we have 'huiskatten', be nice to them!
Delft Blue was created when we couldn't get porcelain from China, because of internal problems over there. So we imitated the white-blue stuff with earthenware.

I spent six years in The Netherlands, mostly around Eindhoven, and absolutely fell in LOVE with everything Dutch. Didn't want to come back, but life insisted🙄 As for the annoying smokers, keep in mind that the concept of "Live and Let Live" is paramount in their culture, respect it👍🏼

If you wanna look at other small cities, try Den Bosch, Maastricht, Amersfoort, Alkmaar, Hoorn, Zwolle, Bergen op Zoom, Deventer, and so om, so forth 😊

About the smoking, since 2008 (I had to look it up😏) smoking was banned from the restaurants.
so everybody started smoking outside, It takes long before people get used to changes, especialy when its about this addiction.
But I'm with you on this,

I think that’s why “Dutch” doors were invented. In the US a “Dutch Door” is one that is split in half horizontally. One can open the whole door, or just the top half. The bottom can stay closed to keep animals out, and the top opens to allow the airflow.

I dropped in on Delft during my trip around the Netherlands in August. Loved it.
That Christmas store is Christmas themed 365 days a year. You should have gone in and told them I sent you. You woulda gotten that free receipt!

So you know, they have also put up the christmas lights yesterday evening in Maastricht, it looked amazing in Wyck (they were already finished in Wyck). Also do more no smoke areas, ban selling chigarretes and vapes, so people have to go out of their way into Germany or Belgium to buy them

That large square used to be a parkinglot filled with cars. The present situation is so much better.

A screen is called a "hor" here, and in my parents' house we had them quite often during summer, when the door to the garden was open a lot. In the apartment where my parents live right now, they have what is called a "schuifhor": a screen that has vertical folds so it can be moved sideways.

We had a diner in Almere.Like a big mobile home, with a lot of chrome and bright colors and - of course - a jukebox filled with 50s and 60s singles. Maybe because of the location (in a park, where no cars can come. ... not even for delivering goods), but it was gone within a year, I think.

Oh and in Delft there is this nice restaurant called Herberg de Mol where you can eat....get this....medieval style! With a few chickens rummaging around and everything, a feast and even some original local recipies from hundreds years old. I've been there once and really enjoyed it. But also kinda forgot about it until you mentioned Delft., def. should go back soon now that I'm talking about it. 😋😋😋

Hi Sky!
1. Diners: no culture for that over here. We prefer better food and a nicer atmosphere.
2. Delft is no village, it has 110.000 inhabitants. I was there last week and visited all 3 of these cd-stores in Delft.
3. All former kings and queens are buried in the basement of that church at the Markt.
4. Screens against mosquitos: it's up to you. I have mosquito screens installed in front of all windows (I hate mosquitos).
Have a nice day my friend!
