Making Your Own Power Off Grid / Don't Rely On Utility Companies

Welcome back to Sweden! In this video we discuss at the absolute basics of an off grid power system. I think a lot of people are intimidated by the idea, especially when seeing the rats nest of cables like in my workshop power cupboard (not proud of that). But in reality, when you break things down it's a lot more simple than it looks.

Brilliant. You explain things so well. I’m a total novice with electricity but already you’ve given me confidence to think that I might be able to do something with solar. Looking forward to where this goes. Thank you.

Exactly these videos are brilliant. I have absolutely no idea about electronics, but this video is encouraging!
I always thought solar is expensive and incredibly complicated.

Your channel is so badass....real....You are smart too.... It will be cool to see how your life is like this summer...I'm in Washington, USA, by Puget Sound, on Hood Canal About the 49th parallel....I bet you are on the arctic circle...Like 60 degrees up....Not as far up as Fairbanks Alaska, but love summertime when the sun comes up early...about 4:30 for us here....Sets before 10, I think....

i used to live off a setup almost exactly when I was in a caravan for a bit. 30W panel to charge my phone and run lights!

Very well explained for the first time dabbler, which there will be more of if they get affected by power outages. I have prepped for that eventuality with 1 power box and a lithium battery with add on inverter. Enough for the basics and just charge up when there's power. Wintertime, little solar available, then there's always an exercise bike that an alternator could attach to. All is not lost.

This is the best explanation I've seen on this topic. It usually gets to technical for me to follow in English. I'm thinking of setting up a battery bank in my house with a few solar panels. Nothing big, just something to buff me when prices are crazy. I guess I could also connect it to the power grid so when prices are cheap I can fully charge

Good video Ash. Will be interested in the which fuse to which thickness of wire, think I remember when converting my van it's something to do with what volts are going though it? So if there is a simple way of explaining it that would be great. Looks beautiful around your place.

This is actually a very good video, and may just be what I need to try out a mini off-grid setup. I have two good spare car batteries, and an inverter I use for camping. I just need the solar panels and charger. I'm thinking initially of just running my lighting with LED's directly from the 12V battery to see how that goes. After that, maybe hook the fridge-freezer up to the inverter. As you say, build as I go. My biggest hurdle is the cost of parts. Thanks for this 🙂
