Question. So when I heard of a potato/lemon battery, my first obvious thought is “so why don’t we just leave the potato in the ground, where it can stay alive and not go bad, and the power is infinite?” But then I googled this and someone said ‘because the power itself doesn’t come from the energy of the potato but rather acts as a conduit for the metals’. Yet when I googled ‘how long does a potato battery last’ the answer was ‘until it goes bad’ but now I’m confused, because you can’t make energy out of nothing, but the potatoes energy isn’t what powers the LED so.... when does the battery go bad, assuming the potato is immortal? Does the metal rot? Where’s the energy coming from? What’s going on here?
