I built a bike powered generator to watch youtube in the woods!! Stay energized during a blackout or burn some calories while watching tv!

here is @SemperVi's video that I ended up referencing👇

This is where engineers should be putting their efforts in innovation. I would buy one of these today. Imagine if everyone had one of these in their homes along with supplementary solar energy.

Nice to see someone do this without requiring parts that cost a small fortune. Also fun to watch you keep trying til you got it right!

Just when we thought it couldn't get weirder

Wrap the metal pulley of the alternator in rubber also, this will protect the tyre of the bike and provide better contact between the rear wheel and pulley. Great little set up. It depends what type of alternator is used, the older type is the way to go. If purchasing new, go for a small simple tractor alternator.

When I saw this video up I dropped whatever I was doing and sat down to watch. Great job as always, you are becoming one of my favorite youtoobers

The other alternators will probably also work, when you supply current to the rotor, which is needed to generate the initial magnetic field.

Excellent video. Not so much for the information that you are giving us but for the way you presented it. You have a good personality and a great speaking voice.

instead of a belt use a wheel on the pulley... rubber on rubber contact... you know like the tiny wheels they put on carts

way less work than converting that to belt driven

I'm stoked for you to start building trails again. these vids are cool though.

When I run for mayor one day, I'm wanting to promote things like this in every home, more than one bike in many cases. Teach the kids in school with classes making things like this for the community that are then sold at just enough to offset materials, which are preferably mostly donated or salvaged.

Pair this with public gardens in as many front yards as possible, low grass plots. Maintained by again the youth through classes in school or as repayment to society by those in trouble within that specific community.

Could wire one line into the power grid that could connect them in series or parallel then hold a city wide virtual marathon. Set record attempts per house, grade. Have modes if one chooses to just add to the battery bank of the city to be stored for a rainy day.

This man brings all our project ideas we never attempted to life!

So cool! :D

I know a few “desk Jockeys “ who’d benefit from that set up! Very impressive video

One of these can be set up with the TV in front for you to watch and then stream a peloton workout. So efficient!

The shaft of the alternator needs a rubber roller. There are companies that make rubber components you may find something suitable off the shelf. Alternatively you can find a general engineering workshop and make a steel roller to suit the shaft and have it ruberised by a rubber molding company.
A steel roller may be sufficient, many indoor trainers have metal rollers some have rubber rollers.

Respect I love seeing people living life. This is where it's at sir.

The first five alternators probably needed a current introduced to the stator to produce an electromagnet.

The only issues with these devices is noise. I’ve seen multiple iterations of this system but noise is definitely a drawback if you are going to do this in an apartment.

he didn't explain how he wired the alternator ....
