"Richtfest" ist a real tradition in Germany, a lot of builders do it. But in times of more and more modular houses it becomes

Thanks so much for sharing this video with US viewers. I passed it on to my American friends since it is something so totally different from the way a house is built in the US.

With the micro pore structure, the light side is placed facing outwards so that the heat is reflected outwards in the summer heat and is not directed into the interior rooms.

The ceremony is done since the "middle ages", a couple of hundred years ago.

Keep in mind that building a house is a special occation in Germany. Owning houses is very expensive - even if you buy an older one - let alone building a new one. Unless in the US the verdict to buy a house is a binding commitment for decades. If you buy one you expect to live there for at least 20, 30 or even 50 years. No one would purchase a house to resell it soon after unless it is a person that trades them for a living or as investment.
Building a turnkey house with 120 to 140 square meters (1490 - 1510 square feet) costs between 270, 000 and 490, 000 euros (US$ 295, 600 - 536, 450) without the plot. A small house with 80 square meters of living space is available from 150, 000 euros.

Whats not clear in this video is that the interior wiring is a similar effort as building the house itself, literally drains for pipes must be cut into the bricks and concrete then pipes must be laid then the drains must be closed again and once this is done the walls get another layer and on top of that some paint. The add on top of that the windows doors etc... bath, you name it!
I have seen houses which basically were basically standing within one summer but then took another 1-2 years until they were fully finished. Thats the downside of doing it that way, getting all the wires in is a ton of additional effort also retrofitting things is a pain! The plus side is stability and isolation!

Is there no "Richtfest" in the USA???? As I mentioned ealrier, in Germany/Europe you will build one house in your lifetime, so Richtfest is a one-in-a--lifetime day. A priest will only be on, if the house will get a church or something.

The roof tiles are really good. But I can tell you from my own experience. Never climb onto a roof like this at the height of summer. If you do, you'll burn yourself. Because the tiles with the glazed surface are very hot. If it's up to 40 degrees, you can certainly fry a fried egg on it.
