I love that the headline is "$1000", but 70% is literally just the wheels.

the apple store employees probably had a little celebration having finally moved some ancient relics.

When he said he’ll compare the mic to airpods I was expecting to hear a very Australian voice going “so this one time I was…..”

I work in IT, and I use the Lighting camera kit on a whole host of iOS/iPadOS devices, but nothing to do with a camera. You can connect a USB Ethernet adapter up to it, and iOS/iPadOS will use it. It's great for quickly "white-glove" setting up a device for a VP or similar, or getting your MDM to push a Wi-Fi configuration profile on a device that is missing it. That adapter is definitely *not* junk.

The $700 wheels aren't *really* intended as a product to be purchased. Don't get me wrong - they sell them and you CAN purchase them, but the wheels exist to psychologically manipulate buyers of a Mac Pro. The default configuration includes the wheels. You can then choose to remove them and "save" $700, so you become convinced that you've gotten a spectacular deal. It's a tactic as old as retail itself.

To be fair to apple, some of these are accessories to old products that they dont sell anymore. But you might still need the accessory.
This is a good thing in my opinion. It is what we expect from companies like framework: supporting old products and still selling accessorues/ replacement parts years later even if only a handful of people still use it

23:12 The international dual USB-C power adapter isn’t entirely useless; you can remove the adapter and replace it with an extension cable! (which Apple also still sells)

That the toothbrush can't stand up while charging is so spot on

I think it's pretty cool that they still offer legacy accessories. It says something about the longevity of their products.

There is nothing super about that drive, it's a DVD drive not even Blu-ray or 4K Blu-ray

Honesty it’s kinda cool that Apple still sells accessories for old hardware. They may not make iPods but they’ll sell you a cable for one

EarPods didn’t deserve to be on this list. The mic speaks for itself

Quite frankly I use 3.5mm EarPods every day for work. Relatively good mic, decent audio quality, comfy, and I don’t have to worry about battery life. Plus if they break it’s only $20. Still a good product!

That toothbrush is like the Magic Mouse. The charging port is on the bottom. Why?? Why not make it a stand like the Oral-B electric toothbrush? Now you put it down on its side, it rolls off the table and dents your floor. Yippee.

The camera adapter is still the best way to connect a USB audio interface to a lightning based iPad.

Funny story here: I actually just bought a usb SuperDrive yesterday brand new from the Apple Store. I have a 16” 2021 MacBook Pro and needed a dvd player for some old media I have, and while reading/playing back a dvd works perfectly fine, I got a very similar error when trying to burn a disc. The stupid thing is that on Apple’s website it explicitly says (at the time of writing this) it is compatible with any Mac made since 2008 as long as you have a USB-C to USB-A adapter, including for burning discs, and mentions nothing about compatibility problems on modern Macs. They REALLY need to either change that or just discontinue it altogether.

Apple keeping most of these still in store make sense to me. They’d just be landfill if not recyclable. It can also potentially make someone’s day to find these things in store if they’re looking for them

SUCH A MISSED OPPORTUNITY to test USB-3 Camera Adapter, since it has separate power input, with an optical drive on an iPhone

"they are huge, they're ugly, and they're UK plug's/socket's are simply the best:
Safer with strong chunky prongs that are shielded where they'd become live, ground on top because gravity, on/off switch to isolate supply and arcing/sparking, fused which is never a bad thing although not required in the US. And they supply higher wattage at the socket.
The badly placed socket shown was a poor example to make a point, I'm sure the same could happen anywhere. We do suffer with more bulk, true, and sadly many just stick a UK plug onto their power adapters and call it a day or do it for aesthetic like Apple rather than designing it for the market. But if you want a safe, robust, capable plug/socket to deal with deadly electricity then nothing beats it.

If Apple made a 4K Ultra HD Blu-Ray USB-C SuperDrive for $149.99, I would buy it instantly.
