" Realize you're living in those golden years. "
The song really speaks to me lately, as I have grown older.

Chills up and down my spine. Man, this song brings me back. 22 years old and in a concrete jungle full of darkness. Level IV Maximim security prison in California. It would take me 10 years to make it home. I look back now like it all was a dream. Rock and Roll got me through. No song was more powerful than this. The lyrics just resonated with a young man not Knowing if he will ever again see home. I would close my eyes and think of home. I would find a way to make it through another day.
Thank you, Iron Maiden. Thank you, rock and roll.

My dad passed away this week and this was his favorite song ever. Thanks dad for showing me some good music... I'll do the same with my kids in the future.

"Don't waste your time always searching for those wasted years" Powerful words that prove that metal music can have a message and still kick ass!! Thank you Bruce Dickinson.

From the coast of gold, across the seven seas
Travelin' on, far and wide
But now it seems I'm just a stranger to myself
And all the things I sometimes do, it isn't me but someone else
I close my eyes and I think of home
Another city goes by in the night
Ain't it funny how it is? You never miss it til' it's gone away
And my heart is lying there, will be 'til my dying day, Adrian!
So understand
Don't waste your time always searching for those wasted years
Face up, make your stand
Realize you're living in the golden years
Too much time on my hands, I got you on my mind
Can't ease this pain so easily
When you can't find the words to say, hard to make it through another day
And it makes me wanna cry, throw my hands up to the sky
So understand
Don't waste your time always searching for those wasted years
Face up, make your stand
Realize you're living in the golden years, hey!
So understand, Adrian!
Don't waste your time always searching for those wasted years
Face up, make your stand
Realize you're living in the golden years
So understand
Don't waste your time always searching for those wasted years
Face up, make your stand
Realize you're living in the golden years, hey!

A beautiful song with a powerfull message. You can’t live in the past because you can’t go back and change it and you also cant’t live in the future because future is not certain. You have to remind yourself how you want to be remembered when you are gone and make it happen right now (not tomorrow)!

I was a 8 years old kid when I was snooping around my dad's music shelf. I had no music preference whatsoever back then, so my attention was mainly focused on the covers. Then I found a Blade Runner-looking cover with some kind of futuristic zombie. Then I realized there were other records with the same zombie, but in different disguises. Impressed by the art, I decided to put the disk in to hear it. I loved every single track, especially this one. However, there was something that bugged me: I didn't know what the lyrics said. Why, I'm Spanish, and I didn't understand English. Nowadays is simple enough, but back then, my English classes were so basic that in the end, I didn't learn anything more than colours and numbers. My mother never learned English, and dad's English was none out of this world. Without internet and the like, learning it was even more difficult. Needless to say an English Academy was really expensive back in the day. So I picked a dictionary and the album's booklet, and tried to figure out what the hell did they sing. It was really frustrating, because I felt that I wasn't making any progress at all. Even with the key words, I didn't understand. English's grammar is way different from Spanish's, so everything was just like a malicious puzzle. But I was stubborn enough to keep trying. Even if I didn't understand much, my vocabulary increased significantly. So did my listening. I was actually learning English by myself. Just to understand the lyrics. I didn't have any other goal. Then... BANG! internet came. With the basis I had already learned, everything went so easy... Full translations, videos, movies, dictionaries of all kind, free grammar lessons, slang, archaisms... I did it. Now I can understand every song, meet incredible people whom I'd never known by just speaking my mother language. Use it for working, free time, learning about other stuff... And it all began thanks to them. Iron Maiden just taught me English. They opened an entire new world before me.

My, those weren't wasted years...

The older I get, the more I like this song. Both the music and the lyrics are truly extraordinary and will remain for posterity, far beyond the realm of heavy metal. It's truly a masterpiece by Adrian Smith. And let's admit it, that intro riff immediately sends shivers down your spine.

A couple of years ago I was in a bad place emotionally and flirting with depression, but listening to this song helped me get myself back on my feet and start looking ahead, instead of living in the past. I'm forever grateful for Iron Maiden.

This song (and entire album) is Adrian Smith’s masterpiece. The amount of emotion put into that guitar solo brings a tear to my eye. Brilliant guitarist.

I have followed Iron Maiden all my life since I was 16, I'm 56 now and I cannot ever remember a band such like Iron Maiden that has not only touched my heart with their lyrics but has done so much for charities. This song will be played at my funeral.
