There are many videos out there on the Bissell. You may have a bad pump, clogged hoses or a clogged heater. I checked for all of those and this turned out to be my problem.

6.5 years later and you're still saving bissell carpet cleaners from the trash can! I tried everything and this finally worked. Thanks Cecil

2024 and still saving the day after 10 years! I just dropped an undersized socket head bolt in the hollow and back to cleaning!

This works! Thanks. I made the mistake of using too hot of water (can't be over 140 degrees oops from an instant hot water faucet was around 190) and the tank plastic softened while on a counter mixing the water/detergent! I didn't realize the valve at bottom of tank had actually moved-as it was one of the 3 points of contact with the counter. The 1/8" inch or so extra from a screw allowed the pump to get water to spray again. I realize that I used water that was too hot, but also Bissell cmon, why in the world would you use plastic that got soft with hot water in a HOT WATER TANK? I used to use same temp water in it and it was a hard plastic that was not temperature sensitive. Bad manufacturing choice.

Thank you so much - two years mine has been sitting in the shed, I was on the verge of buying a new one and just thought I'd try again to fix it and luckily found your video. I can't thank you enough.

After a week of looking this up, your video fixed it 10 years ago. Nothing from Bissel lol. Good job

My Bissell is over 10 years old, and I had many problems, I changed the belts, cleaned out the water heater (filthy) and it would still not spray. I was ready to toss it. I put the screw in and voila - it now works! Thank you for the tip!

I unscrewed one of the screws at the portable spray handle to see if that would work. It was the perfect size. Thanks Mr. Argue. You saved me a lot of travel time to find someone who would work on a Bissell and money for a repair! I had already ordered and replaced the cap and hose to the clean water tank and it worked about twice and then back to no spray.

I took the entire unit apart and ensured there was no clog in the tubes and the problem was not fixed. Watched this video and this was exactly my problem. I promise to check you tube before I take anything else apart. I would have saved so much time. THANKS CECIL!!!!

Cecil, you are a genius in solving what I could not solve with this machine. Put a screw of the correct size where you said it should go and guess what? The machine now works better than the day we first used it. You should receive a reward for your good sense. My common sense got me no where. Cecil man of the year award !

Brilliant. When Bissell told me that there were no spares available for model 7901-J I almost gave up, but thanks to your video and another couple on Youtube, I have got it working. I spent a lot of time looking at the pump end of the Bissell but then realised that if the accessory hose is pumping the problem must lie at the handle end - either the fluid switch or a blocked heater. My problem was the heater which I cleaned. Then it only pumped for a second or so and stopped. You have pointed me to the solution. Thank you Cecil. Thank you Youtube!

Our Bissell wasn't spraying any water. My husband cleaned everything he thought might be plugged. Still wouldn't spray. Decided to check Youtube and came across this video and and a bunch of others for troubleshooting Bissell problems. This one seemed simple enough so he tried it first. It worked! THANK YOU!

Dude, you rock! With 2 dogs, 3 cats, and 3 teens, I need my noisy little Bissel. I used a #8 X 1/2" pan head self tapping screw, but an #8-32 X 1/2" screw with either a  flat, pan, or round head screw would work just as well.

Bissel should buy commercial time on your video. They've made millions selling these machines. Time for them to fire their engineers and pay you!

Cecil, you are amazing. What a simple fix! Thank you so much for sharing this video. Since it has been on here for eight years, you would think Bissel would fix the issue! Great idea and works like a charm!

I watch the video today and made the same repair. My Bissell seems to be working well now. Thank you so much for taking the time to post this video. You saved me at least $150 and the trouble of purchasing a new carpet cleaner.
