It's been a year since Apple Pay launched in the US, yet mobile payment systems have not taken off in a big way with consumers. With Samsung Pay and Android Pay also on the market, CNET.com's Lexy Savvides looks at what you should consider when using mobile payments.

I have both Samsung pay and Android pay. I used it almost in every store. I can say Samsung works in more places with my Galaxy S6

i totally agree Samsung pay really works well it just needs to able to be used with more different cards

Not sure what it is like in the US but in the UK apple pay and other contactless cards are limited to £30 which is disappointing :/ Apple pay shouldn't have a limit because it scans your finger but Contactless cards should be limited imo.

Samsung Pay has an edge here because it works with almost any store that has a credit card terminal but it only supports 3 banks at the moment
I hope that Apple Pay and Android Pay becomes available in my country

The place I go shopping in Scotland, 80% of the shops have apple pay support. It makes payment so much easier.

I've been using Samsung Pay at major retailers, small mom and pop shops and including mobile food trucks. Everywhere I go people are amazed by it. I have truly left my wallet at home. I only carry my drivers license as that still requires a hard copy.

Mobile payments are only ever going to take off when the tech companies can work with the banks to bring the service internationally. Right now, only the USA and here in the UK are getting this service. It's very convenient, just expand the coverage of where it can be used.

NFC is so widespread in Canada. Why not launch here first?

I have not found a place were my card was not accepted I've used Samsung pay at a few of these stores with no NFC, Big 5 sporting goods, bed bath and beyond, Costco, Robex juice, Bunts on Melrose, with this list of stores none takes NFC just a swipe of the card so every time I was making a purchase the lady behind the counter would try and say excuse me sir but we don't have NFC and before she could finish the sentence the transaction was complete.i have not yet had to pull out my credit card for any reason. I'm happy that Samsung pay is only on the latest flagship devices of samsung. if you look at apple NFC not on all there phone's so what are people complaining about.

Kenya has had Mpesa for many many years. Mobile payment, that'll work with any mobile phone. Uses SMS technology. It's changed people's life's.

it's due to people afraid of being hacked. but you can get hacked for using credit cards too. not only that but with any tech you will be hacked. I'm surprised people not going back to just using cash altogether

Wow Apple Pay has been out for a year dang time flies also in iOS 9 it is so much faster and I can't wait for Apple Pay to be in lost of places

I use apple pay everywhere i can but yeah lot of people do not accept it. Whats even better is when you ask a cashier if they take apple pay and they don't even know what it is Lol. I've asked several cashiers if they take it and they've said NO but when i ask if they have a NFC reader they say " oh yeah we can do NFC" I think a lot of people just still don't know what is going on and thats why Mobile Payments are such a small slice of transactions.

I haven't tried it, mostly because I fear it won't work properly and I'll be stuck standing there like a jackass trying to figure it out.
