How to balance a handstand

If you can get into a handstand, but you can’t stay there, try this tip to help!

Practice shifting the weight from your fingers tips to the heel of your hand so that when you need to do this upside down, you’re already familiar with how it feels.

Simply incorporate practicing these shifts into your wrist warm-up routine :)

This works with wall handstands too. Get into your chest to wall handstand, then use your finger tips to pull some of the weight off of the wall.

Of course there’s more that goes into balancing a handstand, this is just one portion of it.

Let me know if it helps!

You are my new favorite person. I have told every person close to me that I found a girl online who I want to be like when I grow up. Not mentioning that I’m *definitely* older than you. 😅 I’ll be 40 in January and I have so many goals for fitness in my 40s! Thank you for these tips!

Very good tip and an essential skill. One of the main reasons a lot of people find it hard or impossible to stick the handstand though is lack of flexibility. If you don't have really good hamstring flexibility then you're going to have to really kick hard to get vertical which can be hard to control and easily tip you over too far. Developing a really good front split will allow you to place the lead leg and then follow with the trailing leg without a really hard kick. Lack of flexibility is the number one reason why beginner gymnasts and calisthenics athletes struggle with skills.

Back in Elementary, my school had a tumbling team for kids where the principle of the school was the coach. Every Thursday, we got to leave whatever class we were in to go practice. I still remember till this day being the best at handstands over my whole team. My principle even let me have a solo act when we put on performances for the whole school. I would go into hand stand position and use my hands to traverse the whole length of the mat. Which was like 20-30 feet long i think? Depends how many were connected with velcro at the time 😅 goood memories. I didnt think this short clip would resurface such passionate memories of my childhood.
