Intel Arc A770 16GB Limited Edition GPU Review & Benchmarks

We’re reviewing Intel’s Arc A770 Limited Edition GPU and benchmarking it vs. AMD and NVIDIA GPUs, including the RTX 3060, RX 6600, RX 6600 XT, 6700 XT, and more. Benchmarks include 1080p, 1440p, and 4K gaming tests for FPS and frametime consistency, plus tests of cooler flatness, thermals, fan RPM, and noise levels. This in-depth review of the Intel A770 16GB Limited Edition video card is only part of our upcoming tests surrounding Alchemist GPUs: We also have an extensive tear-down (with an unfortunate amount of comedy... for Intel), an A750 GPU review, and a separate mechanical-thermal piece coming up in the future.

The release date for the Intel Arc A770 is October 12th. The same is true for the Arc A750. There are two versions of the Intel Arc A770: One is 8GB, one is 16GB. They are $330 and $350 launch price, respectively. The NVIDIA RTX 4090 will launch on the same day as the Arc GPUs.

Never thought I'd see Steve review a Kickstarter project.

Such a good move by Intel to lift the embargo a week before retail launch. Gives me enough time to seriously consider all options

Despite any shortcomings, I'm cheering for Intel to see this launch as a success and keep on improving everything. Competition is a good thing. Thank you GN for all your hard work on content like this!

Man this brought me back to the early days of GPU accelerator cards. It was like whack a mole, they fix one game and two more games would break. We all welcome another competitor so best of luck to Intel and the enthusiasts buying these cards.

As others have already said, please please please do check-ups on these cards/drivers on a consistent basis so that we can see if they are improving. I love the way the LE cards look and want to get my hands on one.. But I can't afford to deal with all the driver issues.

I really hope intel can work out some of its issues in the long term, it will be a nice boon for the GPU market as a whole

I don't think this is a bad first try. I just hope they keep support and fix the drivers because they have the money to do that. Also very interesting that it gets better as resolution goes up.

One thing that really stood out to me was that the 1% lows seems to be much lower comparatively on most of these charts. Having 1% lows that matched cards with worse average performance.

As many others have mentioned, we'd love to see benchmarks for more compute/production work - the 16GB VRAM is a LOT for $329, and Intel has a lot of previous encode and compute experience.

I would like to say that this is a good base for Intel to work from. Things will only improve from here, but currently a very unpolished product.

Would be interesting to see how it performa in OpenCL compute. The massive 16GB VRAM is a very strong point at this price.

Just gonna put this out there, the 16GB model makes sense as a compute card in addition to an already existing graphics card for AI rendering and generation, at least if you want to render and do it all on your computer and not a cloud solution. Whether it's generating dialogue, art, models, or whatever, having a super cheap 16GB card is actually incredible. I will absolutely be getting one of these for that exact purpose.

Since there's lots of people that don't know, having a dedicated high VRAM card is highly desirable for AI text and art generation. You absolutely want a NVIDIA card for 3D renders and such, and that should be obvious, but even a basic text generator like KoboldAI uses a monumental amount of VRAM to generate small 160 character text segments.

Theres a new dx9 driver out.
Intel claims x1.8 performance increase. Might be worth an update

I see a lot of potential in these cards. I feel like, if Intel buckles down and goes heavy into this, even these same cards could be significantly better in a few months. From every review today that I've seen, it definitely seems like there is a lot of work to be done but I feel like people should have expected that.

Overall, I really hope they do well because them entering this market only benefits the consumer.

I'm actually really impressed by this card. I mean it's the first offering and it's just *extremly* hard to catch up to these other monster companies who have been in the game forever.

I hope Intel keeps going with Arc. I think it's an impressive first showing. They just need to focus on fixing their drivers.

Given a year or two it could become a good card. Intel has the potential to compete with AMD and Nvidia. It is nice to have more competition

I might go with this one, because as the drivers get fixed, I believe that this card will improve and age well

So if you play nothing but Strange Brigade and FFXIV, the A770 looks relatively compelling. In all seriousness through, I do hope they can eventually overcome driver limitations and maybe get things into a better place. Maybe it would be interesting to, one year from now, do a follow-up video and see what the performance delta from 1 year of driver updates looks like.

Good on Intel for having a go here. Let's hope they iron out all the issues.
