iOS 14/13 - How to Make Useful Shortcut Automations | Siri Shortcuts Automations Tutorial

Siri Shortcuts have been around for a while, but Automations just arrived with the release of iOS 13.1. And in this video, we run through how to create your own Shortcut Automations and some ideas of mine that you can steal.

We run through Personal Automations and also Home Automations for those of you with HomeKit devices in your home (like thermostats, lights, etc). Both types of Automations are extremely useful and convenient!

I have one in the Bluetooth section for when I connect my AirPods it will show a menu with three options to quickly choose like podcast, music YouTube.
When I’m in my car I use the same Bluetooth trigger so when I turn on my Bluetooth it will ask me directions to work or home. If it’s work then it will be early morning and dark so it it will also dim the brightness and then pop back into podcasts for me while it’s loading Waze directions in background. Have a few more like nfc tag on my workout bikes that opens the app for working out and music.

Had my iPhone for about half a year now and I cannot believe I’m just finding out about this. Scripting is a godsend and I work with these event-based scripts in other applications, so this is great!

Hey Brandon, Do you have an Automation that will remind me to get my phone when I get out of my car? triggered when disconnected from Bluetooth or disconnect from wifi?

I made one just for fun that says, ”welcome home sexy. Time for breakfast.” When I get home in the am and my phone connects to my home WiFi. 😂😂

Hi Brandon your video on shortcuts is very useful thanks. I’ve a shortcut saved to my home screen that opens a particular photo when I click on the tile. The script is finding the photo then showing it using quick look (show photos in quick look). However it opens the photo NOT in full screen. You have to tap the actual image to show it in full screen. Is there a shortcut script to show the photo in FULL SCREEN mode either using show photos in quick look or show photos or something?

Great video. It's got me thinking. I'm trying to create an automation for the Amazon Flex App. I can get the app to open without a problem. Is it possible to navigate to a particulat menu item within the app and then refresh the screen every specified number of seconds?

I am having trouble with getting the “Speak Text” to work. I followed your video, and it will work with the automation open by tapping the arrow, but when I set a time to have the text speak, all I get is a visual notification and No Speak of the text. Please let me know.

how do i add video clips etc.
 I am imagining a reminder shortcut that either randomly pops up several times a day or set to specific times and places, with Motivational text-quotations, picture quotes and/or short video clips.
can you help?
