Bro lol I just happened to be doing this today when your video dropped! Saved me a lot of headache with configuring the yml file for external drives! Thank you

Man, nice to see such a relevant channel. I swear everything is useful, even some of your videos front 7yrs ago and not overly technical, easy to follow. Superb approach to this type of content 👍. I'm finally able to build a plex server and your stuff is great!

This is a fantastically useful video, and a great demonstration of the power of Docker in a home server environment.
I don't have Plex yet, but I always learn something new and interesting from your Plex videos.

Thanks! :)

Next on Lon's Plex playlist... using ZFS and mergerfs to seamlessly expand your storage 😀

It is pretty easy. The backup of the data folder can get pretty big though if you have a big library and basically enabled every feature like I did. There is tons of meta data, screenshots, posters, and thumbnails in mine.

When you change things in your docker compose file, it is good practice to add --force-recreate to the end of the up -d command.

Hey Lon, thanks for the video. Been a longtime subscriber/viewer- despite the Youtube algorithm :). I'd like to request a video about methods to get the absolute highest quality video with Plex. I run my Plex server on a dedicated PC with an RTX 4060, a Synology NAS as the storage, and an Nvidia Shield as the primary client (though I also have ATV, iPads, etc). I run very large files, bitrates, complicated codecs (HEVC, AV1, etc.) through this system and it works very well. (Also, would LOVE you to review dedicated media players like Zidoo, which I really like, and Dune HD.) THANKS!!!

You should toy around with proxmox on the mini PC

Whenever I watch an on demand movie on plex and exit before watching it all and come back later it will start it all over again at the beginning.

I moved a plex vm on esxi to a vm on truenas. I may take some time to move to a container soon.

Thanks Lon. As always an insightful video, and this has piqued my interest in using Docker. But, as with the old joke when asking for directions, if you want to go there, I wouldn't start from here...

So, I am starting from here. I have an existing Plex install running on Windows 11. I have a significant amount of media served from a Synology NAS and the metadata associated with that in ...local/Plex Media Server is around 43GB. More importantly, on Windows, much of the configuration data is stored in a regstry hive which is not acccesible to Docker.

Is it possible/practical to migrate to a Docker on Windows 11 while maintaining my existing settings and metadata intact? If so, can someone point me in the direction of some resources? Thanks

Lon, have you heard about the unify drive ut2 portable 16tb nas that is going to be thru kick starter? It's going to be $399.99 thru kick starter. I hope that it comes into fruition and becomes widely available to purchase.

Would moving from a windows system to a Linux (or Mac) system on docker be as easy?

Wondering if you can do a video or post a link if you have already done one for moving Plex from old pc to new pc. Right now i am just using a regular pc with windows server. Thanks

Setting up Plex on a Windows PC is much easier. Moving a Plex database from one Windows PC to another is also simpler. Of course there are some steps that need to be done but there is no typing, no scripts at all.
I have no use for Linux or Dockers or a NAS at all. I've never seen/heard of any performance difference when using Plex.
I understand your enthusiasm for lots of networked computer but is not needed for Plex. One can buy an inexpensive used Dell/HP/Lenovo PC from many sources and they come with a Windows license. Put extra RAM and some disc drives then install Plex server. YMMV! Thanks.

It sounds like you are saying Umbuntu but that could be my poor hearing.
