In this video I cover how to transfer photos from an iPhone or iPad to a Mac or Windows computer.

I demonstrate how to transfer photos wirelessly using iCloud Photos and AirDrop with other recommendations of using cloud services like Google Photos, Amazon Photos, or Microsoft OneDrive.

If you're not a fan of using any cloud or don't want to transfer wirelessly, I also cover the option of plugging your device the old fashioned way of using a USB cable to plug your iPhone or iPad directly to your Mac or PC Computer.

I also have some other tricks to scan documents and import photos to your Mac.

Thanks, Joel. Just downloaded 5 years of images off my phone to a hard drive for safekeeping. I can now free up that space on the phone for the next gazillion images. Cheers from Down Under mate.

Your "tutorial" was awesome. I'm a beginner, so the computer language is still a bit like Greek. Thanks for a very intelligent, thorough presentation. I'll be watching more and so fortunate you are out there to help.

Best explanation/tutorial ever. Now I can connect iphone to download big video files ( Preview ) and make full use of my iphone and sync my organised album from Mac to iphone under Finder ( wirelessly & automatically )

Thanks so much! Saved me a little from the cable mess. A little LUL for the "good ole' USB cable" USBA to lightning though. I have that cable and it works with all my chargers as well but I need the USBC to lightning one for my Mac. Then my wife needs the USBC to USBC cable for her phone.

Airdrop saves the day, even if it does not work as elegant as one year ago.

If I need to cross the street.
1) I can walk
2) I can skip
3) I can crawl
4) I can sing while crossing
Etc.etc.etc. The options are crazy!

This video is the best Apple Ad ever. I would've considered going back to Windows potentially if I didn't see this video. It's hilarious when you see things glitching in a tutorial video and I really appreciate that you left that in. Just goes to show that windows it's not that well polished, or the device was underpowered.

Thanks Joel. Could you perhaps assist with a Mac 'Photos' app issue? Having moved from Windows to Mac only just recently I have also migrated all of my photos to the 'Photos' app. Whilst 'Keyword' and 'Location' description are self explanatory, I am not sure what to type into the 'Caption' and 'Title' sections of each photo to make perfect sense when at a later stage one has to work with the collection. I am also wondering if I could now delete all of the jpegs in the 'Pictures' folder, with the exception of the 'Photos Library' file? Thanks for any help you could offer, Ralf

Photo Stream worked great for this, when you don't want or need every photo stored in the cloud. It would seamlessly add photos to my iMac and the do a backup of all my photos with Time Machine. No Apple has killed photo stream so there goes that. Looks like I'll have to go back to the stone ages with a cable.

Thanks for the video. Can you tell me which method is the fastest? I would be moving large numbers of photos, like 1, 000 maybe more. I will not have an internet connection, so no iCloud.

Thanks Joel! Is this how you’d recommend getting photos from my husband’s phone (& now my teenager has a phone)? Using airdrop maybe. I’m the main family photographer & store them, but my husband takes some occasionally I’d like to keep together. I haven’t been sure what is the best way to get his photos with mine (without having all mine go to his device, that would be awful for him) I guess that’s the main one. I’ll just let my daughter airdrop me occasional photos she wants kept with family photos.

Hey, welcome back. Question.can you transfer directly to an Mac external hard drive instead of into the Mac it’s self.?

Great info, a lot to digest. Which method would be best for me? I have my iphone backed up to iCloud, but not my computer. (Reason,
If I delete a photo from my phone, I don’t want it automatically deleted from my Mac). Photos used to transfer automatically until they disabled the auto feature ( I stream?). I’m on the older side now and getting lost. I’m on Ventura. Thanks so much.

Okay then, I would like to share a problem I am having in trying to communicate a bunch of photos taken with an iPad to team mates that are all using windows PC's.
What I found while taking the pictures on the iPad and you have it opened into a single view of the picture, there is a menu banner at the top. The "I" blue bubble opens a photo information window showing a place for a caption and other physical parameters of the photo. So I thought I was being smart and organized used the caption option on each photo giving it a description. Well I did that 57 photos later, made an album of them.
Here is the kicker I tried getting the pictures on to my desk top PC and I lost all the metadata as well as the captions on the Windows 10 PC.
I am wanting to pick the brain pools is there a way to keep my captions or am I going to be manual relabeling the imported photos on the Windows PC my team mates are using.
Looking for honest answers from the brain pool, be there done that folks.

Thank you all for your sharing. JAM.
